Smeg Ranges/Appliances
Comments (1)Don't think you'll find much feedback on these. SMEG is fairly new to the U.S and doesn't sell a lot of gear period. Most of what they do sell is in and around NYC. Performance is a bit above what you can get at Sears and below that of the pro ranges from the usual suspects. It's really about the looks....See MorePlease Help Me Choose My 36" Gas Range (Big Chill; Smeg; Berlazonni)
Comments (41)We're late to this discussion, but we have just finished a multi-state tour of kitchen showrooms looking at "professional" ranges, cute and otherwise. A deciding factor for us proved to be the oven temperature-setting. Bluestar/Big Chill and many others have very poor controls for oven temp setting. Some are coarse, upside-down, or both. It seems that the cuter the range, the worse this is. Doesn't anyone bake anymore? How did these controls get into these kinds of ranges? Why do cheap gas stoves have better oven temp setting? The answer might be that in a commercial kitchen, various ovens are set to specific temperatures at the start of the day and they stay there. Actual oven thermometers are used to verify temps. Some cute ovens like Bertazzoni have thermometer indicators on their control panels but good luck trying to get consistent settings by just using the oven temp knob when you need to bake a cake at 350F and then roast some vegetables at 400F. We eventually chose a 36" GE Cafe in bronze and white. This series has a fairly precise oven control setting with actual temperature indication. We will order matching extra oven handles and adapt them to a large but fairly standard white side-by-side fridge, Whirlpool or GE. Here is a link to sources of other kitchen hardware that will match that special GE Cafe bronze: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5578436/hardware-to-match-ge-cafe-series-range-in-brushed-bronze...See MoreHas Anyone used the Smeg 36 Inch Induction Range SPR36UIMX
Comments (2)Note that these are all the same so you could look for reviews of all these ranges: Smeg SPR36UIMX ($4949) Frigidaire Professional PCFI3668AF ($5443) Frigidaire Professional PCFI3670AF ($5843) Electrolux ECFI3668AS ($6099) "I recently learned, that in spite of the fact that induction heats up really fast the size of pan has to be the same as the magnets underneath." No, induction elements have pan sensors that will prevent an element from turning on if the pan is too small. Comments (6)I'm sorry to not have experience with ownership. I'm still in the research phase. I was going to go with a BlueStar gas range, but am thinking of switching to induction. So far I've noticed in the reviews that folks aren't particularly happy with the Fulgar Milano induction ranges. When I was looking for a gas range, I was thinking of the Fisher and Paykel, which I saw and liked in the Yale Appliance showroom. Then I started looking into them, and it seems that F&P is absoluetly rife with service horror stories. They also have a terrible replacement part policy. They only stock replacement parts for FOUR YEARS. While this doesn't directly address your induction range, it does speak to the company philosophy. Doesn't seem very customer-oriented to me. I was inclined towards the Bosch, but then reviewers say that the oven fan is very, very loud and not controllable, which sounds like a non-trivial annoyance. The kitchen is a gathering place in my home, and I do bake a fair amount. There are zero bad reviews on Amazon for the Verona induction range, which is my current pick, but it's early days for me at the moment. Sorry you're in a pinch. Sounds stressful....See Morewdccruise
