Why use cedar if you're going to paint it? No one would use common nails for finish work so I assume you'r going to wrap it with a finish material like Azek.

I think this his finished product. Seems chinsy to me. He said it will look good once it’s painted. Perhaps he had some pieces of cedar around and wanted to use them up. 😣

He had better be a better painter than he is a carpenter. When the paint starts to peel you can hire someone else to wrap the posts with Azek.

Those are pretty! Is that cedar? Our contractor said cedar butted up doesn’t wear well - it contracts and expands. But those areas of (what looks like caulking) is *#%+
