Please help me update my secretary/hutch
Comments (23)decor, I recently bought a small cabinet to hang on the wall, and it had that Federal molding on top ,which I didn't care for. I removed it, spent $5 on new moulding, had a contractor friend cut it because I could not get the angles right myself, painted them and attached it. What a difference! Yours would be even easier because the corners are right angles, so all you have to do is a simple 45-degree chop. If you add bead board to the inside of the upper part, though, I would probably add it to all three sides, in which case you would also have to cut 45-degree angles for the corners, but 45-degrees is an easy cut. You need a mitre saw, though. Those two things are very easy changes which would make a very big difference in the hutch and make it much more amenable to a coastal theme and feel in the room....See MoreUpdate on my plan, help please
Comments (28)Shead, the fireplace is ran off propane. I had propane put in just so I could have a gas fireplace. So we have no chimney and it's vent less. We had one previously and I loved it. The original plan we started off of had 2 wood burning fireplaces but we didn't need one in the office. The fireplace facade was supposed to be brick but I couldn't ever find one so I went with stone. I also agonized over whether to go all the way up with the stone but ended up just about 3/4 and shiplap the rest of the way....See MorePlease help me improve my fireplace!
Comments (6)Wow, is there really no way to edit a post? I'd like to add these pictures to the original post, but don't see a way to do it. Anyway, here are some more pictures of my basement. Please excuse the mess, I'm clearing it out to get ready to paint, etc. I am also updating the bar--painting and changing the trim on the bottom and adding a new top. Also, here are some picture of other areas of my house that I've been working on, to give you an idea of my decorating style. I'm painting my upstairs with SW Balanced Beige and gradually painting the wood trim with SW Alabaster. I was planning on painting the fireplace the SW Alabaster and the walls SW Balanced Beige or maybe the shade lighter. The TV will go across from the couch on the left. I am considering painting that wall a dark teal. I'm going to paint the bar either the Alabaster or maybe paint those the dark teal instead. I haven't decided on that. I still need to paint the end chairs black and reupolster the seats....See Moreupdate my off centered fireplace. help!
