Help with family/living room layout
Hi everyone, would love help with my family/living room layout! The furniture in these photos is the sellers' and is now gone. We want the focal point to be outdoors, but we also want comfortable TV seating for our family of 4. I'm thinking a large loveseat (72") facing the TV, an end table in the corner, and a sofa facing the outside (83"), with all the furniture pushed out from the walls. We are struggling a bit because hubby wants seating for four FACING the TV. He was suggesting 2 rotating chairs against the wall facing outside (so can rotate toward the TV), or a sectional, so that everyone can have the optimal tv experience. I think the 2 rotating chairs idea will look too busy and I'm not a big fan of sectionals. We don't want anything blocking the view to the outdoors; maybe we would add an accent chair. do the longer side on the wall.
if you were to do a love seat, anything larger than 72" or so is going to block the walkway, no?bring some tape and mask out the sizes on the floor.
you could also do two sofas facing each other, one w/the back to the backyard.

Comments (4)Based on how you're describing, I like the two rows, 3x2. This is just a personal preference thing tho. I wouldn't split them on two dimmers. I can't imagine wanting to set half the can lights on one dim level and half on another. I'd put them on one dimmer, then wire the 2nd dimmer to a couple floor half-outlets or accent lighting. Then you can run the can lights or the other lights (floor lamp) or both. I would also put them slightly farther apart than even spacing wall-light-light-wall. Otherwise it will be overly bright down the center where their beams overlap and not as bright on the fringe. With 13', I'd go something like 3.5' light to wall on each side with 6' between the two rows. That's just what I'd do....See Moreliving room layout help- front door opens into living room

Albany Park, Rove, Pottery Barn, Room & Board, Interior Define, Six Penny, Maiden Home, Arhaus, Article, etc. It seems like quality wise, Maiden Home is the way to go, but I can't find a sofa that comfortably seats 5 people without someone sitting in the crack between cushions. The Sixpenny 150" u chaise sectional would work, but I'm not a fan of slip covers and it doesn't seem like it would go in my space. Room & Board has a reese curved sectional that I could build that would fit the space, but I don't know about the quality. The same goes for Interior Define, which has a lot of mixed reviews....See More

3 years agoThank you so much ladies. I taped this out - what do you think? Do you think this taped out area for an 83" sofa facing the TV closes off the area too much? The shorter taped line is for a 72" "apartment size" sofa - do you think that is better?

what kind of sofa were you considering ?
what about the sectional Idea w/the shorter side facing tv?
find one w/an open chaise at the end (like this one) so that it won't 'close' off that one spot:
