IMO- While I agree with 82mainstreet about painting cabinets white and not expresso, I also believe you won't be happy unless the color combo pleases you. - First, what do you want to accomplish? Are you intending to live in the home for a long time? Or are you painting for resale? - If you are painting for resale, then classic white for your cabinets is your best choice. It has wider appeal. A future owner will find it easier to change the wall color than the cabinets. - If you are planning to stay in the house, you can be more personal in your color choices. - But be wary of fads, especially when painting cabinets. It is much easier to paint walls. From your photo, it looks like your cabinets are nicely finished wood. Personally, I wouldn't change that unless they are damaged. I would just update the wall color, but that is just my opinion. If you do paint the cabinets, don't be swayed by fad colors. I would still recommend white or maybe a pale cream. That way, if you get tired of your color combo in the future, you only have to change the walls to update the room. - Unless you are changing your appliances and flooring, very dark cabinets will probably make your kitchen feel overwhelmingly dark and warm. - Consider your lighting and how you want your kitchen to feel. Does your kitchen feel too warm or too cool when your work in it? - White will give your room a light and airy feel especially if paired with cool blues and greens. If that seems to make the room feel too cold, white or cream can be warmed up with a bright wall color like apricot, lime green or turquoise. Try looking through magazines for color combos you like...or look inside your own closet for colors that make you feel good.

i don't know. it was a two bedroom home and then my dad made the garage a bedroom when my sister moved back home. There is a living room and a dining room and a family room...the old garage is from the 50s and doesn't have the height for newer vehicles. There is an old small garage you see in the background and another newer 2+ stall garage in the back with most of the back yard being covered in asphalt. so i don't think it needs another garage, i think the extra interior finished room can offer a bedroom or possible home office and even offering small business opportunities like a quilting machine cottage business or a daycare or simply a studio or hobby room...it kind of leaves a flexibility for whatever the buyer would think important. But again, most people need to see be shown what value the extra space brings. There is no basement in this home. Many homes in minnesota and this area do have basements. most are problematic as this town is built on a marsh and peat bogs which makes most basements wet and my parents always thought it was just a place for mold. this extra room, i feel, bridges the space some people think a basement might offer and brings it to the main level. this is also a vo-tech college town and many people rent out rooms to those college students and again an outside door might be a plus.

Adding black is a good idea for this room. I was thinking floating shelves on wall in front of desk in black to balance poster art black. Maybe low bookcases IB walnut? or should I have cabinets same wood tone as desk? The walls are textured so wallpaper would require a lot of prep. Thanks for you input
