Need some advice for prepping an interior concrete wall for stone

Denise S

We are converting our lower level wood burning fireplace to a gas insert. We want to reface the wall with splitface stone panels but have encountered a (hopefully small) problem with a somewhat significant 'bump' on the upper portion of the wall and are not sure how best to ensure a level wall for the stonework. The fireplace we are getting is not zero clearance so any significant buildout may be an issue... We thought about chipping the bump away, but knowing nothing about concrete foundations, and want to see if that's an option or would we cause bigger issues by doing that. Any advice from a masonry expert would be greatly appreciated!
