Apartment Layout Help for Living Room

Just moved in a week ago. This is where I am at so far. Keep in mind, the TV in the living room is being replaced with a 65” wall mounted tv. The space is very large and I am not sure what to do with the area behind the couch that faces the tv. It feels like a waste of space right now. At the moment I have my desk there and am using it to pile decor on it that I haven’t found a place for yet. Any ideas? See photos and floor plan that show specific dimensions. Would love help with my decor in general as well if you have any suggestions! Also, we have not hung any of our wall art and mirrors up yet. Any and all advice is welcomed and appreciated!

Could the sectional move closer to tv a bit? I know there is a balcony door but could it come closer to the island or does that cut off that area? The area with the desk... perhaps a small bookcase or ladder shelf on each side and a comfy chair for a reading nook? Do you need a small dining area? That could be another use. A table that is extendable and used as a desk when their is not company, a bench and folding chairs (ikea used to have cute ones) stored until needed.

Don’t rush.... you have a beautiful apartment already. It will only get better as you develop and execute a vision.

Can we match the two slip covers? Can we also add a rug under the cow hide rug? Would love to see the art and mirrors so we can start hangin lol. That will add a lot to the space. As far as the desk area. I think it’s an ok spot if that’s the only option. Love the desk btw!

Really like @Nancy Ingram's suggestion - the “chaise lounge to enjoy the view” is really great. @Lou Pimentel We mocked your room to dimensions but for some minor simplifications. Here are some initial thoughts. In the following layout (styled Boho-Glam just for example), the two chairs in the main seating area can both be rotated back to face the windows and the fabulous view. A divider could mount your TV, and create privacy for the dining space. The great view can also be enjoyed from the dining space. There is also a separate conversation space that we feel does justice to your room’s diagonal corner space. As one enters the room, the eye-line is guided towards the kitchen back wall with storage and some decor. This wall could be highlighted more as well, but in the overall look, we feel better this way. We are working on another layout that some of us like better than the above, so stay tuned.

The only item that might be a problem is the kitchen island. You have a modern apartment, with fairly modern/eclectic bookcase and couch, but the kitchen island is a different style. If you have an overall eclectic style that would work, but otherwise it may need to be switched out for a more modern style.

Does "formal" imply you have another space for tv watching? A family room? Or is this the only room for tv? If the former? Make the tv more secondary........use an adjacent wall. Better by far as the need for built in expense will be less, and same with media console and tv. As below...and I will hope that is the case. - you've another tv spot. Truly....... the view into the room is far better this way in EITHER case. A room needs to make CONVERSATION possible; nobody wants to shout at another off in the distance. And that love seat can just as easily be two VERY comfortable chairs. One quarter inch to a foot below. Don't forget a great rug.....9 x 12. Lighting matters.......art matters. : ) The very last thing you need? An accent wall via paint. One paint color will do it.....please. You will get more help if you post some inspo pics of rooms/styles you love. There are no mind readers here...

If you're going to mount the TV on the wall, we recommend looking for a longer TV console to go underneath it.
