New Emerald Green Arborvitae tips turning brown & discoloration

We planted a dozen 15-gallon Emerald Green Arborvitae about 4 weeks ago. Some of them seem to be doing well, but some have their tips turning brown with some patches getting yellowish discoloration.

We are in northern California in Sonoma county outside Santa Rosa. Weather has been on the dry side, sunny and not hot with rain twice.

We’ve been watering with a hose on full shower mode for 1-2 minutes almost every day. Each tree has a soil ring that gets filled up. When we water, the soil is always moist from the previous watering.

What could be wrong?

We’ve also been confused about watering guidelines. Some people said water every day for 10 minutes per tree for the first month. Others said just water twice a week for about minute. Another said we need a drip system and need to water them with the drip system every day for a few hours.
