Definition of a Yankee Gardener
Comments (37)So, Ive been lurking on this forum for about 3-4 years, and finally decided to come out and put my 2 cents in. Im a california native who came to new england 12 years ago. A yankee gardener is somebody who waits all winter, looking at barren frozen ground, for the first signs of life to appear. My parents took a trip to holland when I bought my house 4 years ago, and they gave me a house warming gift of several hundred bulbs. Today, my daffodils broke through the ground, crocuses are up, and Im ready to don my work boots for the always to short gardening season in new england. To me, a yankee gardener is one who waits for the ground to thaw so we can rejoice in digging in the soil to try and move the rocks and boulders and make way for a short season of edible plants and beautiful flowers. Peace to all PS your quirky personalities have made me chuckle over the years...thanks...See Morehave: 7th annual wny plant swap - 2010

Comments (8)We did this last year as we joined my new neice by marriage and her family on CHristmas Eve. They had a range of $25 to $50. The idea being that you should spend at least 25, but most were actually 50 or more. I know that most of the 50 ones were probably the half off sales. The men all brought something for a man and the women something for a woman or of course something unisex. I was amazed at the variety of things from power tools, firepits, electric appliance grills, stereo stuff, etc. We are doing this type of thing within our own family this year since it was such a hit. I am still looking for the perfect things to carry. DH is picking out his own to take. Last year I took a large basket of Bath and Body Works. I didn't buy one of their pre=made baskets. I got a pretty basket of my own and then filled it with lots more items than I could have if I would have bought a pre-made basket....See MoreYankee winder staircase and no handrail... but I need one
Comments (1)check out ljsmith.com and mccoymillwork.com for ideas re handrails, vandykes.com for the hardware to hold it in place. We did a remodel and our architect designed a handrail for us - it's similar to mccoy's craftsman handrail but I don't have pix to post....See MoreSuzieque
