My previous and current dogs almost trip me all the time in kitchen. I should know better after 20 years to look before I move. They are at my feet hoping some food will drop.

My older sister once had two cats, one slender and one was quite the furball. The "furball" would always plop herself in the middle of the kitchen floor and seemed to enjoy all the foot traffic around her!

The love to get right under your feet, don't they? When I'm wearing a mask, I can't see my feet and I've almost stepped on several friendly pets.

I have to be careful getting up around 4 to go to the bathroom. DH’s dog, I mean cat, will be in the middle of the floor in the dark, waiting for DH to get up and make breakfast. I’ve nearly tripped over him.

I learned long ago when I could not see the fur kids to glide my feet when I walked. Most spend the night on the bed but one stays in the small hallway outside of the bedroom. Comes running in then walks in front of me to the bathroom. I did have a couple in my life that would sit in front of me as I was walking to have pets. They taught me well.

My house is like a minefield. I glide thru the house because I have five animals who all are plotting to kill me. One almost did last summer. The 28 pound Maine Coon was in the dark dining room and as I was walking thru, you would think he'd move when he saw/ heard me but no. Instead, I tripped over him and was lucky I didn't break anything.

Yep. We call our Rottie a speed bump. I wish I had a dollar for every time I tell her to move.

Try changing the bed. A small cat suddenly weighs 85 pounds.

Try getting the bed covers up and around you with a doggo lug, laying on top of and hogging all the blankets..,

Ah yes. My poor long suffering MIL...long before she was my MIL.

The old kitchen was a lean-to on the back of the old house (house built about 1790) with a low and sloping ceiling. The room was maybe 12' long by only 7' wide. It had an old enameled metal kitchen table against one wall by the sink (you had to pull the table out for anyone to be able to sit there) There was a small wooden chair under each of the 2 low windows on the opposite wall...one chair was always claimed by the cat. You couldn't really stand there as the ceiling was too low, so you had to sit. On one end was the sink and range, on the other end was the fridge and a small pantry closet. So she has to walk back and forth past the table and the chairs and all of us hanging out there to get between the stove and the fridge. And, while she, her mother and sister were cooking, DH, his father and I would hang out there too. And where was Trixie the dog? Laying under the kitchen table with her nose hanging out into the narrow walkway. So on top of everything else, she had to step over the dog, too! The place was a total obstacle course!

“ house built about 1790” Now that house is a treasure, if only walls could tell stories of old. Absolutely fascinating, may I ask where it is located?

Haha! Roxie and hubby made the bed every morning, as well as changing the sheets.

It's a riot! She knows to wait till the fitted sheet is on the bed (not necessary fitted around it yet) before she jumps on. After that, it's everybody's game.

Sorry gettingnowhere, but the house exists no more. We tore it down before it fell down. The corner posts were rotted up into the 2nd floor, and the front cross beam stopped short of the corner posts by over 2' on each side. The whole thing was coming down around the center chimney. If we repaired it, it would've cost us $$$$$ and even at that, I'd end up with a house I couldn't fit my furniture into. I'm not that tall, and even I could touch the ceilings. And the staircase was so narrow and steep and tight that, just to get a double mattress up the stairs meant it was scraping the steps and the ceiling.

We know little of the history of the house, but did trace it back through town records to 1790 when it was just land. When they sold it in 1820, it was owned by a widow and her unmarried sister who were the children of people who built it, so we presume it was built shortly after they moved. The hand-hewn beams would date it to around 1790 as well as that was before the saw mill was built.

But it was never a grand, Cap'n so and so's fancy home, no beehive ovens or anything. It was your basic farm house. And the interior really dated back to 1930s when my FIL fixed the place up....when DH's grandmother bought it, there weren't even any floor boards. It was also very mucked around with. When I was a small child, a 100-yr old woman stopped by wanting to see the place as she said she was born there...probably about 1860. She said that the kitchen was in the front where the LR was, and the front door was on the side of the house but had since been boarded over. DH's friend also told us that his aunt was born in the house, so that would've been 1910-1920.

We have salvaged a few pieces and parts including some hand-hewn beams which we used to cap our wood stove surround. We did keep the barn and the outhouse though. The barn is in great shape.
