Need suggestions with front of house colors, door and shutters.
Comments (7)So glad you removed the shutters. They don't belong on your 1960s ranch home, even if they were put there by the original builder. Here are two articles to show you why: Shutters vs Shudders More detail about Shutters from Old House Guy I agree with you - no craftsman door. I will look for a door that is suitable for your ranch and others will jump in too :) The biggest improvement you can make is your landscaping. It is all jammed up against your house. Find a landscape designer to put together a plan for you that you can implement over time as your budget allows. Right now your landscaping acts as a barrier and not a sign of 'welcome home'. Wide & deep landscape beds with a wide entrance walkway open up your home. Good call on the black roof color for your new roof. Exciting times ahead!...See MoreWhat color to paint front door & shutters of new home?

Comments (8)Thank you for the replies everyone. No we can't change the window order and we actually did consult a designer before I ordered the windows. I asked her opinion on the white windows and she was fine with it knowing I wanted a classic traditional, timeless look. I actually never considered my house to be a MCM. I have an original photo somewhere taken by an appraiser when it was built. I considered it more of a California Rancher with a little Cinderella Rancher thrown in. It has had shutters since it was built, the only difference is that they have been updated over the years getting rid of the chipped edge look. The window with the diamond leaded glass was replaced and the rounded facia boards which extended past the roof by about 4 feet were cut back. I mentioned we are open to getting rid of the shutters we're just wondering how to add more interest or color if we did. It is such a long house, I don't want it to look boring.. A MCM look would not fit in in this old country-like neighborhood. It would stand out. We do have an Eichler neighborhood nearby where that would fit right in. Comments (7)Thank you all so much for your comments! Just to clarify... I have black louvered shutters on all windows on the front of the house (as shown in the 2nd photo). The first photo shows how it looks since we have removed a few shutters for repair and paint prep. I have seen a lot of tone on tone or lighter colored shutters and began wondering if my black w/white siding on top of multi-color old brick looked too dated. The back of the house has 4 casement windows (upper) and 2 lower. We have never had shutters on these. I noticed that my photos - front and back yard - look almost mirror-image! But that was just a coincidence. Thanks again to you all! Picking out paint colors is tougher than it looks! :)...See MoreJoe
