The rug is too small--it is smaller than your table. Quite a bit of it will be covered by the base and people won't be able to see much of it. Even a 5' x 8' rug might not be large enough--I've sat at more than one dining table perched on a 5' x 8' rug and the back legs of the chair weren't on the rug. If you want to add color to your dining room, can you return the rug and use the money to buy some artwork for the walls? Do you have curtains in the room? Or how about a tablecloth? Or some plants?

I love that colorful pop and it looks great with your furniture. Can’t tell from the photo angle if it’s centered with the wall, centered with the light fixture? Ideally both are in the center. Your hanging plant will allow you to cheat a little on the exact measurements. Nice change!

Hi what did you end up doing? i would turn the tsble in different direction, a little closer to the railing and swag the chandelier - or have electrician fix. Too mich dark- needs to be broken up /balanced somehow. That can be done with a rug, but that might be asking for trouble under a dining table if you actually use it. Certain light color stained woods can look noce with dark floors, depending on undertone etc. dark floors and light furniture looks nice, its just how prsctical it is for you. Even a light grey or ivory rug that has some variation or a pop of color to coordinate with the light fixture would be nice- especially if it is washable rug. Chairs can be white painted or leather/fabric. I can even see having a really nice white ish marble or quartz table- practical /easier to maontain than a lihht rug or fabric chairs… and thst would help balance the dark cave like feeling on thst side. Hope it all worked out/works out for you! Its all easier said than done! Everything cost money or time, or both!

I agree that you do not need a rug under your table. It is anchored by the dog bed. Just kidding. It is framed/anchored by the windows. I pondered this same issue, with a table centered on two patio doors, and decided not to use one. I don't think there is necessarily one correct answer, but I think your table looks lovely and lets the floors/surroundings serve as accents.
