Do you know anyone who’s had NPH?

Adult onset normal pressure hydrocephalus? Someone I know has been diagnosed with this and I’ve read up on it but wondering if anyone has any actual experience with it. It’s more common after age 60 and often misdiagnosed.

This is with Parkison's, correct? I think my brother might have have this.

No it’s independent of Parkinson’s though sometimes misdiagnosed as such and I think it can be a Parkinson’s comorbidity. The person I know doesn’t have Parkinson’s

My DD! She drives the rest of us crazy! Sometimes (in car) I have to tell her to stop talking *at* me, I can't concentrate, I need to drive. Then there are the conversations that go on forever b/c someone's just not getting it. I must have spent 5 minutes at dinner last night trying to describe to my dad where/why I thought they were putting catch basins in on my uncle's street. It started with my dad saying he drove that road around 3pm, noticed surveyor was at lot behind my uncles' (he's on the corner). I said yes, at 4:45 I saw the flags and OBTW they were putting in catch basins on that (short) road. Dad said he saw the patched asphalt. I said well the heavy equipment was there, and I saw the concrete storm drains off to the side of the road. *That* started it - "Where?" "At the end of the road near the land that's for sale" "There's no land for sale, that's the house, they just have the sign on the state hwy so people know it's for sale around the corner." "No, uncle told me last year land was for sale, sign said acreage, but the drains aren't on the hwy, they're on cross street." "Mr. X used to own that house, he sold it, but he owns all the land back behind all the way up to your other uncle, but he sold the house, he doesn't live there anymore, but he always had a problem with water running down the driveway of that house, he dug out so it doesn't run in the road. Maybe the new owner is doing something" ... it turned into a 20-min conversation, both of us getting frustrated, and all I meant was to mention they're working on the road and we shouldn't use it as a shortcut til they're done. Most conversations with my dad end up like the old Abbott and Costello "Who's on First?" routine...

I wish I knew then about making sure that the flooring contractor would check on how level the slab was. Midway through laying the ceramic in the kitchen, his guy came upon a hump in the floor and although they made it work, well that was stupid. Don't skimp on the floors if you get tile. Go for something that's nice and flat (no beveling) so the mop will at least touch the grout, and of a high hardness. Mine is chipping where they meet from things being dropped on it. If I had to do it over, I actually think I'd go for the highest quality, cushioned vinyl roll out on the market, or at least a very high quality porcelain tile. I had Kentile (sp) in my old kitchen that was 15 years old and looked like new. Can't get it anymore, but sometimes I wish I'd pulled those tiles up and brought them with me! I didn't want wood because I have an engineered wood, BR1111 Amendiom surrounding the kitchen, and it's entirely too soft and scratches too easily for kitchen use. And, what a nightmare that would have been with them trying to glue down those floors on a big hump in the slab. I'm waiting and gathering before I proceed further, to soak up as much as I can from the experience here.

I know at some point, whether when she is 10 or 18, or somewhere in between, she will be more curious about her bio-dad and want some answers. She may even want to meet him. And that's all okay. I am fully prepared for that and I believe it is her right. If he were to call today, even after 6 years, and say he wanted to talk to her, see her, I would be supportive of doing that in a constructive way--just because I feel it is not MY place to say no. BUT seriously--the guy is a total loser. He has two other kids, neither of whom he sees, and I'm not sure if it was the child support for my daughter that landed him in jail, or one of the other kids. The guy is really a deadbeat in every sense of the word. I don't feel my daughter is missing out by not having him in her life. I have a friend who was raised by a man who was not her father, and to this day, HE is her dad--she is now 27 years old. I get what you are saying, but I think my daughter's situation is easier because it's so cut and dry-he has never been around. That all said, I know it will be her "issue" in life and I just hope she knows however she wants to handle it as she gets older, I will be supportive. She has asked me a few times things about her dad, and so far--my simple answers seem to satisfy--"he lives far away in a different state, his name is P, etc." She did ask me one time a year ago why he didn't love her. THAT was a hard one. I told her that her dad doesn't KNOW her, and that I am positive if he knew her, he would love her. I then proceeded to remind her of all the people that DO know her (grandparents, uncle, fiance, cousins, etc) and love her.

PK, I pulled it up as soon as I saw the first leaves emerge. When I pull up an invasive, I don't merely tug and yank, I get my hand weeder (or shovel) and go down deep to get the roots. Merely pulling the plant up usually leaves too much root behind. Even in places where I could not get rid of every bit of root, I just made sure that I cut off every leaf that sprouted, which insured the death of the plant trying to emerge. Diligently removing emerging foliage on pesky invasives (such as alstromeria) worked well for me because the little brittle roots were impossible to dig up. Molly

DH was diagnosed with it several weeks ago. A neurosurgeon placed a vp shunt on 11/9, he was discharged on 11/11. Sadly, He was readmitted to the hospital on Saturday, he had progressively worsened prior to Saturday. It was determined that the shunt was draining too much cerebral spinal fluid so it was reset. He seems better now but I don’t know when he’ll be released. This is due most likely to brain trauma from the radiation he received for brain metastases over 4 years ago, he is being treated at MSK in Manhattan.

On Eileen - so sorry to hear your DH is struggling with this. As I've been thinking about it I thought about the unfortunate timing with hospitals being overwhelmed with Covid. Are you able to visit him? I hope your DH will be home and feeling better soon. On a separate note I know what it's like myself to have treatment for cancer that does its job but leaves you with difficult side effects later. You just do the best to you can to enjoy each day you are blessed to have and power through the difficulties the best you can.

Thank you 2 Katz, he is being discharged tomorrow. MSK has very strict visitor policies but he was allowed 1 visitor a day, either 8-12 or 4-8, form filled out online prior to visit and you’re screened once you enter the building. If it keeps the patients and staff COVID free, I have absolutely no objections. They have assured me that this is now a correct setting for the excess fluid and I assured them that there would be issues if he was released and we had to return. We’ve been dealing with this for over 4 1/2 years (stage 4) and I have to honestly say that we’ve never had a problem with MSK, his physicians are great to us, his neuro oncologist called me on my way home.
