I think the sectional is just too bulky for the room.. would it be that bad to leave the TV over the fireplace? what are the actual room dimensions? If you hang the tv on the short wall you need to have a way to watch without straining your neck.. what is the width of the room from fireplace (with the hearth) to the wall? option 1 - get rid of the sectional (yes it is comfy but bulky) and put a sofa facing fireplace, get 2 swivel chairs (recliners or not) to either face the tv on short wall or swing around and face the 'people' sitting on the sofa and a narrow ottoman for additional seating.. sketch the room on grid paper with as exact dimensions as you can.. option 2 - leave the TV above the fireplace but i would still replace the sectional with a sofa and chairs so you have more walk through space and the ability to move the chairs if you need to.

Thanks to all of you that have responded. I do not have pictures yet of the fireplace wall because it is literally studs at the moment. Ive picked out the 36" fireplace box and know the dimensions of the wall and room but that is it. So, I am attaching a sketched idea of what the design will be similar to and I am attaching a few pictures of fireplace walls that I like. Let me know which look would work best with the blue kitchen in terms of colors and style. I will have an 8ft coffered white ceiling with dark wood beams and white walls.

April, thanks for the photos. It gives me a better idea of your style. At this point, as far as the fireplace, or any other changes, I recommend having an overall plan. Design is more holistic and, if you don't mind, could we see -photos of the other parts of this room -photos of other rooms (and information on what you are not changing) -furniture you have and are keeping My biggest concern right now is the furniture arrangement. The fireplace is in an awkward place. It might be difficult to arrange furniture, especially if you have a tv........unless it goes on the mirror wall.....an argument in your favor to remove the mirrors. What direction do the windows face?

I love your windows and angles! but the curved arches and columns are fighting them badly. I love Beverly's mockup. If you did that, I'd recommend also squaring off the arch between the columns, and getting rid of the weird mirror niche that's to the right. (I suppose your house is full of arched entryways and niches? that could be a big job, but you could tackle one room at a time.)
