I have this stone in my bathrooms. I took close-up photos of the slabs in the stoneyard. Upon install, I noticed two of these 'cracks' in the counters and backsplash. It turns out that these were in the stone prior to fabrication--I found them in the photos when I magnified the picture! I haven't had any problems but, again, these are bathroom counters, not in the kitchen. I rejected several slabs of this stone due to major cracks that were less visible from the front of the slab but readily so from the back (I made them pull them out so I could see both sides). I was shocked that I ended up with any cracks but couldn't fault the fabricator. My fabricator hated working with this stone by the way. (The counters were installed in 2010.)

Anna: Please be more specific as to the exact location of the crack. You may have a reinforcing rod failure which is fabricator error.

We have been fabricating and installing stone countertops for some time. A lot of the time homeowners have a misconception of what we do with the slabs prior to installing it. As a norm we cut and fabricate the edges only. We do not make Natural stone. We Fabricate and Install what has been hand selected by you - the customer. Part of the beauty of stone countertops are small hairline fissures and cracks - this again is natural. My suggestion to all my homeowners that select natural stone is love every single inch of the slab - imperfections and all because we cannot make it disappear if it is in the stone. We work around (where possible) inclusions and holes as best we can but we do not control or make lines in stone disappear or surface polish any material. As long as your Countertops are fully supported, those little lines/cracks can be filled in with a penetrating epoxy and although they will not disappear they should not separate or get any worse with normal use.

Joe...also....the corbels under the granite were from previous countertop. There are 2 and the counter on the side with the crack does not meet it...they filled in gap with epoxy. I have a call in to the fabricator company...they also sell the slabs and installed. Am I being unreasonable about the crack? I can see it and feel it. I spent a lot of money for these tops and am also using as full height backsplash. They are supposed to install tomorrow which obviously will not happen until they come out and we discuss the counter concerns.
