Help me choose between these 2 Trane systems.....I am at a loss..
Comments (16)Thank you Tiger for addressing my question. I am not sure about the cost of electricity. My electric bill jumped about a year and a half ago, and I am not sure why. Used to be about $180 a month on an equal payment plan. Started having AC problems around that time with it frequently icing up (a 5 tom unit). Last fall my AC broke down altogether, had a company come and repair it.....they charged $1,000 and it lasted exactly 12 hours. At that point they told me they knew all along that the AC could not be repaired but not to worry, I could use the money towards a new AC as long as I bought it from them. I of course refused, took them to court, won....but the company refuses to pay the court ordered amount. That's my story in a nut shell. So now I need a new system before the weather gets too hot. My present furnace is 130 ton I think they told me. As far as rate is concerned, a quick google searched came up with this: Power rates will be $.09/kwh up to 1,000 kilowatts. The rate for usage over 1,000 kilowatts will increase to $.1085/kwh. Gas I have no clue, the google search made no sense to me. Design temperatures used were 8* and 75*...See Morei am at a loss plz help !!!
Comments (12)Heh, that old way of thinking....send the problem downstream! In any case, I'm not thrilled with cottonwoods, but they would certainly grow in such a spot. Another item to consider is volunteers: So basically, the first rule of ecology is "nature abhors a vacuum", and as such, that little area is simply not going to remain bare, even if you don't lift a finger. The question is, do you have lots of invasive junk in your area, things like common buckthorn, non-native invasive honeysuckles, etc? 'Cause if you do, those too will happily move in and colonize the site. They might anyway, even if you do plant stuff, so be aware, you may need to familiarize yourself with the cut-stump method of removing unwanted woody plants. But that's for later. A number of willow species will indeed work there, as will elms, some maples, and really, a bunch of other stuff. Shrubs too. Now getting back to that weeping willow; It is on many lists of trees to avoid, but it does have some redeeming characteristics, aesthetics being one of them. I always say-'I like weeping willows, especially on someone else's property"! Meaning, they are prone to storm damage, shed little branches all the time, and eventually get huge and unstable. So long as there's enough distance between you and your home, activities, etc, and the weeper, it's okay. I wouldn't have one hanging over my patio. But if this is way back and out of the way, could be a workable choice, along with some other trees. Another good one to consider would be the swamp white oak-a great tree in the white oak group- a legacy tree that if well suited to its site, will outlast every one of us with ease. bur oak would be another, with similar attributes, as would the Schuettes oak, a naturally-occurring hybrid between the two. Real good trees right there. Silver maple and Freeman maple might be good options also. +oM...See MoreHelp choosing kitchen color..I am at a loss with this kitchen.
Comments (416)Thanks all..Ellen it’s the candle for that hurricane glass. The funny thing about it is there’s a rather large hump at the bottom of the glass making it impossible to stand straight up. It just falls against the the side, not a little..a lot! Yep, it’s cheesy, tinny, razor sharp at the bottom and my most epic internet-purchase fail! I’m looking forward to posting a few more pics a later next week...how do you like your staged envelopes! They really put me in touch with my feminine side. Not that there’s anything wrong with that lol!!! But yea, I’m super quick to defer credit on that idea ;). In fact, all I did was the rug and the rug would’ve been drapes if it weren’t for pandtkendall..who I think hates it lmbo! As long as Kat likes it..I’m cool! That made my day! I’ll post more pics soon...See MoreI am designing my future house
Comments (57)@mark: Sorry, posts as in..a couple of your comments are exactly what we're doing. :-) A doc is a Microsoft Word document, or in my world it is a Google document. A sharable & collaborative digital document of notes where people can add or edit as a group. My cousin is a licensed architect and I have been picking his brain and he definitely has neat ideas and has been very helpful, but we still decided to hire someone local that our contractor has experience working with, after walking through houses they had designed and built together. My notes and initial design have been shared with the firm as well as my contractor. This process really just started today. They are going to physically go to our lot along with the contractor, read my notes and look design, and are then going to provide an initial floor plan based on all the things provided / environment / passive solar etc and the 3 of us will collaborate and iterate. We also have hired a land surveying & engineering firm for help with our building site. We decided on our builder before moving forward with an architect, outside of the family advice i am receiving for free. My wife and I are new to this (outside of a main floor gut and remodel in a previous home) and I really appreciate your thoughts and time. We live in Driggs, Idaho - about 20 minutes from Grand Targhee Ski Resort and about 45 minutes from Jackson Hole. Our first snow storms started in early October....See Morefreedomplace1
