Skepticism and Expertise

The news just now teased a feature on the tools and gadgets that are must haves for your holiday cooking. I rolled my eyes. I was expecting jimcrack gizmos. What a pleasant surprise! It turned out to be a canned feature from Cnet, but they're not my first thought for cooking info, to say the least. In fact, the presenter was youngish and dressed for TV rather than cooking, but seemed bright and knowledgeable, with a good voice and clear delivery. My ears recently have been scalded by televised voices that are highly unprofessional and unclear, and uttering mistakes in grammar and intonation, so this was a relief. And she backed up this professional demeanor with the following list: Quality 8” chef's knife, knife sharpener, Termapen, digital scale and procedure mask. I might quibble a bit on the specific choices, but while I'd think that any decent cook would have these things, or similar, in general, and many non-cooks wouldn't know what to do with them, I can't argue with this list.

It's such a nice thing when competence shows her face!
