mixing door openings (arched & flat)
Comments (1)Hi Tinker2006 I have both but not where both can be seen at the same time, but I have seen mixed in other houses and they look fine to me. (Pleased you decided to go with 9 ft ceilings!) Autumn...See MoreHow close can a peninsula come to a doorway?
Comments (8)Are you wanting stools there? We had a similar situation and the base cabinets ended at about 10 inches from the opening. We extended our quartz out 7 inches from there and then began an arch that went to 16 inches before ending at 7 inches on the other side...but we wanted seating there and our opening went out to the living room side. We also got rid of our breakfast area and made that more of a walkway so there was plenty of room for breathing space....See MoreTrying to figure out how to make in-laws kitchen style more like me
Comments (29)Thank you all so much for indulging my brainstorm!! I think what is bothering me most is I dont have a clear vision, but we know exactly what we need to do with the rest of the house. Under the ceiling fan is where the kitchen table goes and then the room wraps around to the family room. The entire wall on the other side is all glass sliding doors and it gets full sun all day long. My husband actually loves the fan because the sun can make the room quite hot especially while cooking. there is lighting under the cabinets for sure and it does look nice and bright when all the lights are on, but I do love the pendant lights over the island idea. its definitely a few years away before we do Anything but I LOVE that soft green @Maureen posted. I actually think that might be perfect for the island. Love the idea of losing those cabinets beside the stovetop - I hate them because they just scrape along the counter. Putting one big hood fan is a perfect idea @designinteriorsouth. If I were Doing it today I would be inclined to paint the perimeter cabs white and then change the backsplash To a lighter colour....See MoreCan I reframe this doorway myself?
Comments (9)Thanks all! @ci_lantro Yes, the off-centered doorway is going to drive me nuts, but that would be the case anyway. We are shifting the left line of cabinets over 12", but since the left edge of the door frame is tracking along with it, nothing will change there as far as the alignment goes. What will create the off-center is that we are getting rid of that corner cabinet (which you can see in the bottom picture), and just going with a straight row of cabinets. I'm excited to swap out a barely functional lazy susan for a much more functional cabinet with pot drawers. But yeah, that leaves too much space on the right. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of putting the fridge or a tall pantry there there to help distract from this, so I'll have to explore that idea some. Thanks @emilyam819! @wiscokid Yes, the wall with the pass-through is coming down. EDITED TO ADD: I would love to hire a contractor to move the doorway over in order to center it and remove the issue all together, but then we are talking about moving at least one support beam, and I'm afraid that will blow my budget :(...See MoreTara
