White kitchen dark wood floor

If my kitchen cabinets and counters are white, and the flooring is a dark wood look- what colour should my walls be painted ? Would you suggest white or another light colour

Do you have any pictures of your space that you can share? Or at least of the cabinets and counters?

What is the lighting like? Is the kitchen open to other parts of the home or closed off?

What does your counter look like? And the backsplash? Paint is usually selected last because you can get it in any color.

The answers to these questions (and others!) will help us answer your question better.

Thanks for your response. We are currently building so don't have pictures but they are putting in the kitchen last after the painting ... its open plan kitchen lounge and dining room. Lighting - we are going for downlights and pendants on the centre island

We've an open floor plan in our living room with darker solid wood floors throughout. At one end is the kitchen with maple cabinets and island sink and dishwasher. At the other end of the floor is a chocolate colored leather sofa ( http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=252644&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results&zip=98296 ) with decent space in between. I was thinking of adding a white dining set from Dania ( http://www.daniafurniture.com/home_dining_tables/item/3081 ). I was wondering if it'll look odd if I've a white dining set with dark brown sofa two feet away. Also I'm thinking of painting the walls behind the sofa in sage green color (herbal wash from sherwin williams). I'd greatly appreciate any advice. thanks.

Wood floors are like jeans. Some prefer a dark rinse, some prefer faded, and some like the regular medium blue denim. I love gray jeans, but they are harder to find. They all work and you don't have to match the color to anything. The very dark wood floors have been more popular the last five years or so. They aren't as warm as lighter floors, but they still look great. They aren't necessary for contrast if you already have white cabinets/black counters, but they are part of a look that many prefer. I chose a medium stain for the floors in my white kitchen with dark counters because they show less dust and look great with the area rug in my great room. The shade is similar to the floors I once had in a Victorian house built in 1895, and it is similar to the floors my friend has in her house built in the 50s. I consider it to be warm and neutral and I can't imagine ever tiring of it.

Have you considered white cabinets with gray countertops, in the lighter range? You chose gray paint, so that might be a good option, and if it's too much of a good thing, repainting the walls is easy. The floors in this pic might not be as dark as yours, but I think it would work. google search-gray countertops I usually look at everything from a DIY, budget-conscious point of view. With that in mind, you might check out resurfacing the tile tops with a concrete product, and then paint the cabinets, even though you don't like the wood grain. With a little extra effort you can make them look smoother, or as I did, embrace the grain. This will cost only a few hundred dollars, and will give you more time to consider a full remodel. If you sell the house before remodeling, the new owner can gut it and put in his own idea of a dream kitchen. Concrete over existing counters Painting oak cabinets

Pay money to an electrician first, for better lighting. Then find a pro that uses an Italian 2K coating and be prepared to spend 7-9K for them to refinish the cabinets. Or, join the Kitchen Cabinets Painting Experts group on FB for all of the instructions to DIY. It’ll take a month of effort, and about $500-1K in equipment if you want it as good as the tough factory finish that exists, that the pros could replicate.

I prefer a light space...which means I would naturally keep the walls as light as possible. If you can match the white of the cabinet, you will have a very light feeling space DESPITE the dark floors.

Remember: dark floors are AWEFUL to keep 'looking' clean. They show every speck of dust (90% of dust is human skin cells...the other 10% is Dust Might feces) which means it is normally a light gray. Cotton fluff, wool rugs shedding, etc show up like a neon sign on dark floors.

Just be VERY aware of what you are doing to yourself when working with dark flooring. Have you lived with dark floors before?

Now that I've seen your floor in another thread Other Thread, I would say you can go any color you like. Please avoid gray, though. Or grey either....
