Mediterranean landscaping while preserving Giant Birds of Paradis
Comments (5)Actually, I think Mediterranean can be interpreted in quite a few different ways, including using your GBP's. I would not take them out...especially since you will be taking the tree out and your GBP is the only thing 'of size' there to play off of. Other wise you're going to be left with a flat landscape and a long time, I would imagine, for other plants to attain height, size. I've seen a lot of Mediterranean style landscaping utilizing GBP.I would think you could look around your immediate area of Fullerton and find some also. There are good books available through the library, including 'Mediterranean Gardening, a Waterwise Approach'. Also, simply google mediterranean garden(s) in images and you'll find lots and lots of ideas of what to do for your landscaping....but I sure wouldn't take those GBP's out...it's your starting point....See MoreRE: Spanish Revival/Mexican/Mediterranean Style - Part IX
Comments (150)BinsB How GREAT! I'd guess by now the 'kids' are knocking from the outside - yes? Paleese post a pic if you can. We'd all (I'm sure) love to see your accomplishments :-))) after waiting soooo long. Love the orange colors of the nursery but mmm - are they really going to sleep in one crib? :-)) Just kidding. When you have time, which likely won't be for awhile I'm sure, would love to see the nursery with the paper flowers, et al. Not to worry about the non-span house of present. It's the spirit inside that can carry it thru. Imagine what a tough time I have in my location. LOL!! You'll have lotsa fun (when/if you can find the time) doing some special stuff in your new abode. Trop - hmmm pictures this year? LOL! That will be fun to see. I'll look forward (but won't hold my breath too awfully long). :-))) I'm thinking maybe you just eliminated the kitchen altogether and are doing take out now? Houseful it's great to have you posting again. Perhaps you can help us breathe some life back into this thread as I know Bins is going to be rather busy over the next while. :-)) If it weren't for her dedication, I'm sure this thread would no longer exist. I have a few things on my plate but hopefully they will be resolved shortly and I can return to my decorating love. And speaking of thread(s), I didn't check but I'm thinking we must be getting close to limit - yes? Should we be starting a new thread? Waddya all think? Take care all, Holly...See MoreNeed help for Mediterranean landscape
Comments (19)majority? 2 design commenters mentioned home design. Did you also read the part where OP stated she wanted to use a stone veneer and asked where to put it on her house? I would consider that a merging of the two. And I don't know how long you've been lurking, so you really can't discount all discussion when it comes to plants. I have a ton of mediterranean plantings around my own home. Along with a multitude of other types of flowers, trees, orchids, palms, succulents, ferns and plumerias, and am quite familiar w/the style and their requirements. And when I said frost, I really meant snow. Not the occasional 32 degree nights. I'm talking 0 and the negatives. Most of the plants we're talking about will be toast. Hence, "Where does OP live". Which I'm surprised you experts haven't even established yet. You're too busy w/the condescending attitude. So Amanda, what are the plans for the house? you mentioned the stone and if it should go all around the house or just partial? did you want something along these lines? Keep in mind you're working with a post-war type of ranch house w/siding and smaller windows. For the look you want, you may also want to consider new windows. i was trying to find an example w/the stone veneer and siding like yours. but for the style you're after, the stone is often w/stuccoI believe this is what Flo had in mind when talking about the roof. Doug drew up a good design for you. that driveway would be a giant plus for the look you want. Also, that porch design. can you bring in some thicker wood post supports? This shows the post and a stone veneer, as well as a flagstone driveway....See MoreExterior Lights for Mediterranean Style Home
Comments (5)Yeah, I'm also worried you might be looking at lights that are too small. What's there now is definitely too small! When you look for new outdoor lights, choose fixtures that are a quarter to one-third the garage door's height. They may look a little large when you're close up, but remember these lights need to be seen from far away too. (Advice comes from our light sizing guide.) If you'd like to look at some lighting recommendations once you've determined a good size range for your lanterns, let me know!...See MoreRelated Professionals
