Need input on LR (pics)
Comments (42)ok in the last picture i think the new grouping is nice on the right side but the table onh the left is a bit crowding..maybe remove it and put an inch or so between the love seat and the table pulling the love seat a tad to the left..to help balance..a small piece of art will finish the table grouping on the right near the table and lamp so the lamplight warms the art..a small square or round just a few inches above the top of the table with the plant just barely in front of the bottom right hand corner of the art...remove the bookcase in that room, it just doesnt go, everything else is ok.. back to the living room, the sofa doesn't properly balance being over by the window..it would be better facing the fireplace with the chairs on either side of the fireplace like you have them works well, however there are some balance changes that will work out well for you. first on the right side of the fireplace use the same chair and lamp and plant on pedestal, but take the art that is right of the sofa and put it on the wall right of the fireplace (not same wall, small wall by window) and put a table under it a few inches..put a small plant and some other art or something on that table..i think the round table is fine there, but any dark wooden table would work well too, or even that footstool would work as a table there well. the black shades work well with the chair and the black matted art..they tie into a theme..don't use white shaded lamps or anything too light in there..they won't balance. do a similar thing with the blue chair on the left of the fireplace..leave the chair and lamp and stool, but use a dark wooden table or something else there, not the light wood, and if you have a picture that goes with the dark matted one use it in a similar way as you do the other side..or you can use matched art from beside the fireplace stacked with bottom one a few inches above the table..not on the fireplace wall but the wall next to it.. a chest or coffee table will work well if you face the sofa toward the fireplace..but one of those other dressers or desks could be placed behind the sofa as a sofa table as well which would work nice so you don't see the back of the sofa..and the childrens chairs would be nice under the window with a small table or footstool between them.. these rooms do NOT call for the lighter wood, it just isn't needed with all the nice darker pieces that you have that go well together..that little dark desk would work well under the owl print..with something to tie them together, art or a lamp or something.....See MoreWhat's the new avocado (to avoid)? Help choose fabric for sofa
Comments (14)Well, House Beautiful this ain't, but I agree it's hard to visualize without a photo, so here is one. The light from the window interferes with the exposure but you get the idea. The picture over the sofa won't be staying (wrong size, wrong height, we aren't attached to it anyway). I will have fun finding something for that space later, no hurry. We may or may not get another rug someday, no hurry there either (one of our dogs was very sick on the old one near the end of her life). The coffee table was a Target bargain to serve as train table, art table, laundry-folding table, etc; it's probably not a long-term piece. The things that will stay for sure are the brown recliner (new, DH chose, we are still not really used to the dark color) and the '80's lamp behind it. You can't tell in the photo but the lamp is sort of a butterscotch color, a leftover from DH's bachelor days; and even though orange is one of my least favorite colors, I like it somehow. So ugly it's retro, that sort of thing. The wall "art" nearby (one print is not in photo) both echo the butterscotch-terracotta color and also have a sagey green which coordinates fine with all the fabric samples I posted. Aloe is the most unlike it, but being all the way across the room I think it'd be OK. Oh yes, wall paint and drapes will stay the same. It doesn't have to be one of the fabrics I posted, by the way -- those are just the pictures that were handy, and those are the shades of green I've narrowed down to. (At least for today.) That particular fabric is 44000 double rubs, from what I unearthed on the Internet, and some of the colorways are available locally for a good price (which doesn't mean I have to use it). Roarah, thanks for the photo -- I also have a sample of a fabric that looks similar to yours, so it's very helpful to see it on a finished piece. The legs of my sofa are part of the frame, as palimpsest says, so they can't be changed. So, seeing this photo -- darker green because of kids and black dog hair? Lighter green to make up for having such a dark chair? Green at all? Doesn't really matter as long as it's not burgundy plaid? (lol)...See MoreI'd like your opinion on this CL rug for my LR
Comments (11)Thank you for all the thoughts and opinions. I don't know if this additional info/pic will help clarify anything for anyone, but here goes anyway. This picture gives you a better idea of the true colors in the current rug. It's not quite that bright IRL, but I am never able to capture IRL photos with my camera. For example, the table you see just a bit of in the pic is much more red, not orange at all. And here is a link to the same CL rug from the Macy's site. If you look at it there, you can scroll over it to take a closer look. I will also add that I have considered going in a completely different direction, as bestyears suggested. I have even thought about simply having a piece of broadloom bound and getting exactly the dimensions I need in that room. I still do have a concern about the larger size of the CL rug compared to the current rug. No one has commented on whether or not they feel the CL rug at 8'8" X 12' would be too large. I think the direction I'm going with this whole make-over, is to find a rug that works with the sofa because that is DEFINITELY staying. Then, after I have a rug, I'll figure out the chairs. Does that seem like a logical way to approach the "make-over"? Here is a link that might be useful: Karastan rug at Macy's...See MoreWhich new fabric/print for my LR?
Comments (62)lisaam -- I had very little experience. I know how to use a sewing machine and had hemmed pants. I sewed maybe once every year or two. I have no desire to quilt or make clothing, but I'm really enjoying these shades! I'd like to try a tablecloth and decorative pillow covers. I need to do something with all the fabric I bought and decided not to use, LOL....See MoreRelated Professionals
