Try adjusting slack out of drive cable. Adjustment is a clamp that is part of deadman cable near upper end of handle where it bolts to the handle. Early versions did not have an adjustment at this point, the two cables were tied together with no adjustment. If your's has the old cables try clamping a pair of vise grips to the inner cable just before it goes into the outer casing. Start it up, engage drive lever and then give a good extra tug on the cable with the vise grips. If it takes off the cable is simply stretched and needs replacing or if newer style adjusted. There is a retro kit for 25-30 bucks which includes both cables and a new slightly different control lever. The clamp for adjusting the drive cable is part of the new deadman cable so you can keep it adjusted in the future. While they were under warranty honda did this for no charge. Yours is out of warranty but if it needs the kit it will not hurt to request the repair dealer check with Honda for a good will warranty. If the cables are all kinked up, fraying or otherwise showing signs of heavy use it won't fly to ask for good will warranty but if they look good it just might. Often when they do give the good will warranty it will be parts only and you pay the dealer his labor cost but even saving 25-30 bucks makes it worth asking.

I'll find out what our HS is and ask if they can dig up some info for me. Maybe I'll call one or several of the local papers, show them some photos of ones I've found, and see if I can get them to do something on it, if I can remain in the background, don't like publicity. That could throw me off track though. Also, something may have been written up in the past that I missed as I've just gotten hooked on these roses since 2003 when I found the Harison. Actually it started when I was a little girl and across the street was an arbor with something like a Fr. Hugo on it. From there, I found one growing as a hedge when my children were small back in the 70's and asked the people if I could have some seeds, was clueless about propagation in those days and no one to share my interest, so it has been dormant until lately. I'm waaaaay behind in my knowledge about these old roses, can't stop me from looking for them and trying to propagate them, photographing them, and just plain enjoying them. If I didn't have anything else to do, I should dig in and start researching myself starting at the library. They are extremely helpful there. Maybe in the winter I will do that.

Hi azzure087: I only have 2 small plants with about 12 pods on the plants pictured above. I got carried away with germinating about 10 hot pepper plants, it is from these that I have harversted 800 pods with more to be harvested LOL! The plants that I started were Heatwave, Prairie Fire, Habenero, Super Chili, Jalapeno, Thai Dragon, Ghost and Chocolate Ghost. And, bought what was labelled "ghost" pepper from a vendor at the Farmer's Market in Almonte, Ontario. The pods on this one are still green but I can tell that it is not a ghost, the poor guy probably got the seeds off the net or through someone else that took him for a ride. Although I have harvested 150 ghosts off my 2 plants with still about 150 to go I have decided that these were just a novelty and will only start one plant next year. The ones that I really like are the chili peppers and the pods of the plant above, which I will use more often with my meals. Here is a close-up picture of one of my ghost plants.

Your wheel as is, is not in operating condition although all the parts seem to be present. (Consult the link below.) From what I can find, a wheel like yours in working order would be in the range of $800. The spining head (on your machine) has to be truned 90 degrees, locked in place and belting installed. Yours is a double head; The belt would run over the wheel twice, first passing over one pulley on the spinner, over the wheel, and then over the second pulley. I can't see in your photo how the treadle is connected to the wheel. This can be done by one of two methods. One method uses a flat wood stick for a connecting rod between the crank arm and the treadle. The second method uses a stout string or leather thong to connect the crank to the treadle.
