Staples. 20# of chicken in the freezer for soup. Spare 1/2 gallon of milk in the freezer. Butter when it goes on sale.

You stock up for winter here, because you may not be able or want to get out in the ice and snow to get it or have someone get it for you.

I stock up on turkeys, cranberries, and canned pumpkin as they go on sale after 'their' holiday. I make sure we don't run too low on the essentials: coffee, chocolate, tp, dog food, and beer -- not necessarily in that order. Oh and this winter guess I'll have to add milk to that list, because my milk kefir grains eat through 2 cups of fresh milk per day. Now that we live in town, I don't worry about weather keeping me from grocery shopping.

Same for me as for sephia. We don't really have a "supply" of anything. Especially not things that are perishable (like coffee mentioned above) or freezer items.

I don't think I stock differently for winter than I do any other time. Not that kind of climate on the washington coast ;0) If a storm is forecast, I may pick up a little extra of a few things so we don't have to go out, but really have not had something come up where we could not go out. (two 4 wheel drives and chains for both - the chains have come out of their box very infrequently).

Living in a temperate climate, I don't have to stock up for winter, but I do buy two bags of fresh cranberries when they hit the stores to use or freeze since they aren't available at any other time.

Don't really stock up but always have 4 or 5 cans of Campbells chicken noodle soup. Plus ingredients always to make my Tuscan bean soup, which makes lots to keep me ready when it's those stay at home days during cold spells.

I suppose if I lived where it snowed a lot I might stock up on something. It doesn't snow a lot in Seattle, and when it does, it doesn't last. People go nuts though when the weather forecasters predict snow, and head to the grocery store to buy like they're going to be snowed in for a month. I can walk to a grocery store, so if I did need something, I'll just take a walk.

In more normal times I would purchase a bag of catfood and perhaps one of the 32 can packs when I reached the halfway point. Drive way has a 30 degree angle just as you turn into it. When we have deep snow and ice it is impossible to go up. I restock the frozen things such as the entrees for the winter along with canned soup. I have an electric stove and the power does go out. Frozen entrees are basically leftovers so can be thawed and eaten as is if necessary. Soup in summer is eaten cold so the same thing. I do have a Weber grill and charcoal or some wood debris that I could heat something up if necessary but standing out when the temperatures are in the teens has never thrilled me after I did it once.

Ah, I didn't get it either. Ice and snow barely lasts for a full day here. Not a worry, so not stocked for winter. Though, I did stock up for another, coming shutdown. I have enough of everything until, ironically, March. Except milk and fresh fruits and vegetables.

I will stock up on flour, sugar, lard, powdered milk, pasta, canned goods, and coffee. We get bad weather, we will be all set. I am very good making something at what I have, even if it's on a gas grill!

Nothing, really. I am very close to the stores, and this area is very used to

heavy snows and clearing them pretty fast. Yeah, there is once in awhile a

really bad and heavy snow, but I think I would be pretty ok for items. I do

tend to have more fresh veggies and meats in the winter for making soups,

stews, etc. Other than that, don't really stock up too heavily. I have never

been in the habit of running out of things before I buy new, anyway.

Living in Florida means there are very rare days of below freezing temps. Even today, we are in the 80s with an anticipated low tonight of 74!

Maybe I'll go stock up on booze, but nothing is such that we cannot get anywhere during the next 5 months. Only a hurricane could make a difference.

I am always stocked up. We don't have much of a winter here in my area of Texas, so no real reason for 'winter' stocking, other than buying a bunch of sweet potatoes around Thanksgiving. I have plenty of canned sweet taters but I do like to have a baked sweet tater with sugar and butter for lunch when they are plentiful.

Because I cook differently in winter than I do at other times, I tend to stock up on baking supplies - I hate running out of something when I am in baker mode - and broth - I am never sure when I may feel like making some soup.

I also pick up a couple of extra bags of fresh cranberries and stick them in the freezer since they are not available at other times.

I just buy things when they're on sale. Chicken of the Sea tuna was .49 cents. Last week hamburger was $2.47lb, purchased 7 lbs. and froze it. They're predicting snow showers tomorrow. Then sunny Tuesday.

Even though I live in WI, getting out isn't a problem. Road crews do a bang up job keeping the roads & neighborhood streets open & dry. It is the cold that keeps me from sticking a toe outdoors for days/ weeks at a time. I'll easily do without rather than brave the frigid weather. But do my best to keep from having to do without.

The only thing that is winter specific that I can think of is salt for the sidewalks. A small bag usually lasts years, as I use it as sparingly as possible.

Next time I need windshield cleaner, I will get a low temp winter formulation, but I won't stock up on it. Might use a different oil formulation in the car.

My mate will certainly put blankets and emergency stuff in the car.

We live in the city with three markets within 3 blocks, so what we need is close by. I would say we are generally well supplied with needs and "might needs" year round, though.

Not much. Climate is mild. But I don't like being cold in the least so I've already stocked up on extra cold weather clothing. This year my additions are two quilted vests, water and wind resistant fleece riding tights, a bunch of new socks, second pair of muck boots, two fleece lined shirt jackets. a couple of new Cuddle Dud tops and a new pair of Bear Paw boots I use for house slippers. I guess I do back to winter shopping.

I also cook differently in the winter, more "comfort foods." So when certain ingredients go on sale, I will buy enough for two or three meals of whatever because you just don't know when they'll be on sale again. I don't like to pay $1.79 for a can of red beans, then it goes on sale next week for $1 a can. Always have catfood on hand, heaven forbid that run out! And kitty litter, of course. LOL

When weather gets bad here, I sometimes can't get up the driveway so I pay attention to the forecasts and shop before it hits. It's 10 miles roundtrip to a grocery which isn't bad, but can be tricky going across bridges. I keep the car gas tank half full, make sure I have candles, etc. Haven't had a power outage here (knocking on wood right now!!) but I try to be prepared just in case.

I don't stock up especially for winter but like to buy supplies enough to last for a while when they are on sale., e.g potatoes at $1.00 for a 10 lb. bag last week rather than the usual $3. - 5.

Buy 10 lb. bag of onions, that'd last me forever, at lower price per lb., and share with son and/or landlord's family.

I don't stock up on anything because I have a gazillion grocery stores five miles from my house. If it snows, which it didn't at all last winter, the roads are good to go in a day.

I like to have a box of puffs with lotion on hand and a night time cold medicine during the winter. And definitely hand cream. We bought calcium chloride in bulk last year so we are good to go on that for several more winters. The 1/2 of cow is ordered and the venison will be coming when the guys go out hunting.

I make sure the gas cans for the generator are filled, that there are coffee beans in the freezer and shelf stable milk to put in it. I fill lots of gallon plastic jugs so I have water to flush when the power goes out and bottled water in case I'm not home to fill things when the power goes out. I have some water in the pipes for about 1/2 hour after it goes out. Oh, and batteries for all the flashlights and extras for the smoke alarms. Firewood for the wood stove, but I usually have a couple of year's supply.

When I had a cat I stocked up on cat food and litter, same for dog food. I used to stock up on pantry items in the winter because I don't drive and most of the time walked to the grocery store 4 blocks away unless I went shopping with someone else which wasn't always a guarantee. Roads and sidewalks can be bad with ice during our winters with the thaw and freeze cycle every day and I already broke my knee once falling on ice so stocking up was the better option for me. 2 years ago I started stocking up again for winter then realized I didn't have to do that any longer since my brother who moved in works at a grocery store and can bring home whatever I need.

Other things I am stocked up year round on. I don't shop myself, so others do it for me or is ordered and delivered. I live about 20 miles from a major store. We do have small stores, but usually prices are higher.

20 gallons of gas for the generator with stabilizer added and 100 or so lbs. of charcoal for the Weber (which always goes on sale here in December) and a couple backup tanks of propane for the gas grill, propane stove, and my new pizza oven. I should also stock up on a few bags of bread flour for making pizzas and some topping ingredients....cheese, Italian sausage, pepperoni, etc. I have 15 pints of pizza sauce in the pantry from home grown garden tomatoes.

I always have 300-400 lbs. of frozen meat and veggies in the freezers but just need a way to cook it if the power goes out. I have an endless supply of firewood on my 5+ acre property if needed.

Pecans - store bought are tasteless. poor texture

Nothing really. I keep a well stocked pantry and freezer. As for cat food, I buy a lot....like 50 lb a week!

I stock up on a bit of everything. I do this in the summer months so I have enough to last two or three weeks in the winter in case I can not ( or do not want) get out . then around May ( when the Post Office has a food drive) I send lots of stuff to the food bank, and start over. This year when we had a lock down ( and I was also going to move) I did not go to the store except for eggs for three and a half months.

Every fall, I buy a new 6 pair pkg of Kirkland Merino wool hiking socks. Got them in September this year. If I wait too long, I can't get them in my size. Usually order them from eBay because nearest Costco is too far away for a membership to be worth the cost.

I always keep a stock of food and things on hand. It's how I was raised. For winter, I usually keep it simple. Costco had 50 packets of hot chocolate for $3 something the other day and I bought one. My kids and their friends love them. They also like the individual packets of apple cider that you add hot water to.
