Living room layout help - 2 openings and the front entry door

I'm looking for help in a practical, yet cozy and welcoming layout for my living room space. It's 15'10" x 14'5", but I have 2 entries and the front door to the side. We're currently in the market for all new furniture, so the sky is the limit on suggestions. :)

I am torn on whether to get a sectional vs smaller pieces of furniture (sofa, love seat, chairs, etc). Sectionals seem cozy, but I don't want to be limited to layout options due to a more custom piece of furniture.

You'll need to get very narrow arm rests, and measure twice, buy once for your pieces (not only for the pieces, but also for the space it's going into. No sectionals. As you said, it limits your decor options. Do not pack the room with furniture. How many people usually use this space?

I would do a sectional facing the 14”5 wall. With the TV on that wall. This way you have a defined cozy space. New very large rug. Coffee table and new curtains , and possibly a new light. This will all bring the room together

That really leaves you with the current arrangement, replacing the grey chair by the front window with kid stuff and leaving the floating living space opposite the TV. I'd really look into rerouting cable so the TV can be where the large art piece is. It's not usually very expensive and will be necessary in order to keep your walkway from running right in front of the tv.

Chess-yeah that's me - yes, that is exactly right! the owners dad built it about 70 years ago. Jamie Ludwig - I posted some additional photos that did not seem to upload before Saypoint - Was thinking I can't do seating on either side of the door because on one side you have fireplace and the other side is the entryway to the other room. We tried the sofa facing the fireplace but it did not seem to work well as it felt like you walked into the sofa when you came in. Also tried the sofa in front of the tv with the back to the door but then again felt like you walked right into the sofa and it was too close to the TV.

If accurate in your drawing, I am assuming you are leaving the space behind the sofa for a walk way. I’m not in favor of that because everything is off-center. Position the rug directly in the middle of the room, sofa on long wall, love seat under back windows and to balance the two seater on the other end, add two chairs. Ikea piece to the right of the fireplace and something above it to balance the window. Remove the brown table left of fireplace and add a smaller Ikea piece in white for this effect: (except mirror goes over larger piece).

I like your rearrangement. Now for suggestions.....The coffee table is too big. I would like to see a round ottoman there. I would put your little mirrors around the bookcase...three to each side. Get a end table with lamp for the end of your couch nearest the dining room. Maybe a tall plant on the other end of your couch. To soften the room, if you want to, I would get some sheer curtains for the windows Also I would pull your sectional out away from the windows...looks sort of shoved in. Pretty dogs.

This type of layout should work for your room. I would select a sofa and two lounge chairs. It's always the most versatile option for a living room.

If your TV stand is not designed to fit in a corner, make sure you get one so the stand takes the minimal amount of space in your room.

I like the general layout you have, with maybe Beverly's change to some chairs for lightness. Large end-table and lamp in the corner -- that leaves room next to the door for a smaller entry table with a drawer, if you need a place to drop mail or hide mittens. Large piece of art over the two chairs or loveseat. I'd try to use all art in this space, and keep the family photos in the more residential/private zones. You don't necessarily need decor around the TV, although some prefer it.

The most flexible seating is a 3-seat sofa and chairs. I would put that big TV on the 14' wall, sofa at the window and two chairs and floor lamp on the 6'8" wall, and angle a lounge chair and table by the entry into the other room where the green art is on Beverly's floor plan. Store a couple of bean bag seats in a nearby closet for the younger children.

I would put a sectional in the corner where the tv is now, the tv on the 14.5 wall, two lounge chairs with a table between, maybe swivel, in front of the windows - low backs so as to not block so much of the windows.

Your layout looks good to me, except I would just do a sofa and two chairs. The sofa on the back wall as you have it now, and then the two chairs in front of windows.

A couple of small storage ottomans to use as coffee table(s) and extra seating.
