Favorite Lavender Daylilies from 2020

Post your favorite lavenders of the season here. The next color will be yellow.

These were some of my favorite lavenders:

So Irresistible

Untamed Heart, my 2020 intro, looking much darker and bluer with the cooler temps of the early season.

Musical Medley was very well-budded and bloomed for a long time this year.

Baby Blue Eyes was a bonus I’m glad I received. It’s a smaller plant with such great color, probably the bluest eyed daylily I have.
Flutterbye, an oldie but favorite one here. This one will always be in my garden.
Kansas kitten was a new addition this spring. It’s a small front of the border plant that bloomed a month after being added.
Moroccan Sunrise had an outstanding season this year. So many blooming clumps, a great performer after a nasty spring.
Lavender Stardust is a great performer with scrumptious color.

Debra, I love Untamed Heart. Any photos from later in season? I don’t remember it’s look in warmer temps. Carolina Cooldown caught my eye again, I love the simple beauty.

How late is Heavenly Be My Lady? Once again here, lates took a beating from heat and dryness; it is, I think, to be expected with climate change. Always interesting to see what is growing well for others. I picked up Cancun Candy on Nancy's recommendation, and it was a joy. Of course, I love the earlier ones blooming in June, so fresh and exciting, and recently without the weather problems of lates. Tall Dark Stranger looks like an improved Russian Rhapsody, and it also blooms early. Some of the older Munsons and Moldovans are hard not to keep. Lord Chamberlain is a rich color, though not in a good location here. Paris Silk is a Munson that I cannot seem to give up. Impassioned is fairly young here, but I am not thrilled about the fact that flowers haven't been very flat. Generally, I like flat flowers (there are exceptions). I would be reluctant to recommend Just LIke Candy, which I have had for some time, and which has never had a good bud count. Flower is too small for me too. On the other hand, Impressionist Sky, also pictured by Nancy in recent years, was big and rich and vivid, with better bud count than last year. Almost every bloom on Glowing Quasar is perfect here and the scape much better than that of Bass Gibson. Bass Gibson, as usual, had some bad first flowers. Both, however, were excellent performers this year. People who saw them were wowed. It really was a good year here in general. Earlier rains gave a lift to bloom through about the first week of July. Then typically overbearing heat and dryness put a damper on the later ones. There were so many good ones, I couldn't begin to narrow it to 10 and don't have the time or energy right now. The energy of June is a distant memory.

OK, I just went back through my photos and daylily list and I do have an embarrassment of yellows, I admit. Here are some of the ones I (thankfully for all of you!!!) did not post: Brocaded Gown, Bubbles Galore, Monkey Giggles, Siloam Amazing Grace (like Brad, one of my faves), Siloam Breeze, Spring Willow Song, Hope Diamond, Buttered Popcorn, Mary Todd, Sunday Sunshine, Sherry Lane Carr, Planet Claire, Heavenly Yellow Lion, Yellow Monkey, Sqidward Tentacles, Christmas Mimosas, Googies (due to enabler Maryl), Mister Butters, Bonnie Holly, Dilemma, Evelyn Kloeris, Moment in the Sun, Painted Softly, Banana Moon, Blonde is Beautiful, Omega Supreme, Concrete Blond, Childhood Treasure, Floyd Cove, Shaman, and Solar Music. Remember I have lots of acreage so I don't have to cull and some of these are older while some are newer ones. This list does not include my very first purchases which were of course mainly yellow!! I also have many yellow noids I inherited through my legacy gardens. Whew!! I don't suppose I need to remind anyone how much yellows make me smile!!! Kate

Kate - Thanks for comment about the Karelia seedling! I need to give it more space to see if can get more buds. Last season is had 15 buds on one scape and 12 on the other. I think it could do better than that if not surrounded by taller seedlings. It did increase to five fans last season, so I'm looking forward to more scapes next year. If you want to post more eyed and edged daylilies, go ahead. Our friends didn't have many. That's why I went overboard - to make up the difference, or maybe I'm just greedy. When I first started collecting daylilies, the watermarked ones and the ones with eyes and edges were my favorites. I still like them a lot, although I no longer add many of them. Debra

Nancy - I do like the looks of Coach's Magic Man. I'm very fond of all purples with teeth. Shark Infested Waters is a pretty red. Are the teeth white on that one? I have one more toothy cultivar that I forgot previous times, probably because it's my least favorite. But it is a great performer and usually has 20 buds or more. A couple more.....
Through Dark Waters was a bonus plant last season, had its second bloom season this spring. I wasn’t sure it would stay in the garden. I was surprised with 7” blooms this past summer, it got a reprieve.
Trahlyta is a garden work horse, love the unusual color on this oldie.

Sherry, Lavender Stardust is gorgeous!!!! I also like Futterbye [of course!] and Moroccan sunrise. Debra, Carolina Cool down is my favorite of these.

I have so many lavenders. It and purple are such favorites.

Seedling 1 that I really must name!

Lavenders are my second favorite color, after purple. So I have a LOT of them. It is hard to limit myself since almost all are favorites but I'm sure Houzz won't allow me to share them all anyway:)

Nice photos, everyone! Carmen Renee and Dream Sequence are my favorites of these.

We don't grow many lavenders. I like all daylily colors, but lavender is low down on my list. It is nice, however, to have some cool lavenders to offset all the hot oranges we have.

Forever the Optimist is my favorite lavender. It's actually described in the database as lavender pink. I'm partial to pinks so maybe that's why I like it so much. It is a wonderful performer for us, blooming twice this year.

This is Becky Adams. I don't have much to say about it because I get the lavenders mixed up, especially with the next two. They all come from Bob Selman.

This is Lavender Tall Stacks.

I have not been overly impressed with the performance of Wishful Dreaming. This year it did better than it has before, so we'll give it some more time.

Another one described as pink lavender is Dreamy Drawing. We have actually been impressed with this one. It has done well which is sort of surprising because it's a Lambertson. We love Lambertson's hybrids, but they usually don't like our climate very much. Please pardon the dead flower in the background.

That's it for me. I had more than I thought. We have a few others that I like but I didn't get a picture of them this year. Age of Aquarius was beautiful last year, but we moved it and that set it back some. Lavender Oasis is a huge plant, but I didn't get a picture of it this year.

O My, Celeste. There are so many beautiful lavenders here!!!!!!!!! How can I possibly narrow down what I like best? Well, here goes. These are ones I don't have myself.

Windham Tropical Waters, Last Lama, Carolina Twilight, Age of Aquarius, In High Regard, Astral Voyager, Dream Sequence, and of course Spirit Of The Dove

Wow, I didn't post and relooked at everything and came up with other favorites. Victorian Christmas, & Lady Liz,

After looking them up on garden.org, the winners to me are Age of Aquarius, and Astral Voyager, plus Spirit of the Dove.

Lots of lovely lavenders being posted! I've never seen a lavender I didn't like, so it's hard to name favorites. I noticed a few that I didn't remember seeing that I liked: Queen of Camelot, Forever the Optimist and Carolina Twilight. Brad, I always like your lavender seedling, and that's a great photo of Zuzu's Treasure, which is a blend of pink and lavender here.

Sherry - The deer ate my big clump of Untamed Heart, and we had three weeks in June of cooler temps, so my other photos don't look much different. Here's a sun shot from a few years ago that shows how it looks here in 94 degree temps, more of a rosy lavender petal color.

I like lavenders, although they tend to be more on the mauve side for me (but then I like mauve too). Way too many to comment on each but these stand out: Sherry: Why I don't have these yet is beyond me. There's a reason they are treasured daylilies from the past:

Lavender Stardust and Trahlyta......Celeste: the Queen of purples and lavenders, if there's one UF that I still think about adding *(IIHR) it's Ocean Spirit. It looks good for eveyrone......Kate: I grew Ava Gardener and this Smith daylily had such wonderful form. Most Smith daylilies don't last for me, fading away in their pot after a couple of years, and she was no exception. For anyone else, she's a good one to trial...........Debra: Did I ask this question before? Royal Invitation has drawn my eye for 3 years now, but the bud count is lousy at 10-15. No More Tears has the same bud count but produces many more blooms for me then listed (and that's not rebloom, just regular bloom). So how does it do for you. It is a beauty............Maryl * PS I get tired of typing this so I'm shortening it to IIHR (If I Had Room).

Nancy - Lavender Stardust always does well here, so I'm glad to see it on your post and Sherry's. I'm always drawn to Timeless Majesty.

Maryl - This was the first year for Royal Invitation here. It had 13-15 buds per scape. It's supposed to be a rebloomer, but it did not rebloom for me. On Karol's website it says she registered it as having 15 buds, but it has had a range of 10-22 for her. So it can get more than 15 buds on a scape.
