First Frost of the Season! New Market area...
Comments (6)Hi Meadow_Lark We are practically neighbors. I am in Huntsville on top of a mountain! Sorry about your broken leg. I had my elderly mother all spring and summer and my garden has suffered too. Each winter i dream and in the spring reality sets it!! New to garden web. Hello everyone....See MoreI think this might be one of my favorite new forums!
Comments (17)Thanks folks! Sorry I might have been misleading. The link to the photo album is from a fellow conifer gardener. I wanted to show his album as he does a superb job of intermixing conifers. He is in KC. All the photos in this post are mine though!lol!. #1 = Thuja occidentalis 'Congabe' aka Fire Chief. #4 = Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Snow' #5 = Tsuga canadensis 'Moon Frost' #8 = Picea pungens 'Fat Albert' #11 = Picea orientalis 'Atrovirens' What I now love about conifers is that that there is SO much out. Different sizes, shapes, weeping, swaying, climbing, arrows, texture, color and the list goes on. Its almost as if they are blooming in May and June when they push new growth plus you get color all year! There are even some that turn gold during the winter months. I'll be sure to post pics as the landscape evolves. Purples, whites, reds and pale yellows will likely be choice color daylilies when mixing them in. Lime Frost will be the first to go in in the next couple weeks....See MoreFirst frost in my yard,. How about you?
Comments (18)It took me by surprise. This is the earliest date for measurable snow here in 24 years. Trees are just beginning to turn color. It's way too soon! I was happy to see the snow melt by afternoon. I was out pulling the last of the annuals on Friday as frost was predicted, and McT inspired me to take pictures of hosta fall colors. The erromena were so pretty, slowly turning from green to gold and matching the remains of the Black-Eyed Susans. I was amazed that Carnival was still looking fresh amidst the curtseying ruins of the Tiaras (and, despite having been snow-covered -- it still does, though leaves are tissue-thin now). What strikes me this morning after two nights in the 20s is that Abiqua Moonbeam still look as nice as if it was early summer outside, and so do Golden Meadows and Princess Anastasia. Most everything else is on bended knees now, even if the leaves still hold form. And they are predicting another snow storm in a couple of days. I am not ready....See MoreMy first puppy! Comments (61)skatiero, I am so excited by your post! Most definitely you may use the picture!! I looked at your website a while back when you posted it and was so impressed, both by your work and at how great you look. You had been saying you thought you didn't look well and I can't remember whether or not I posted to you at the time, but I'll tell you now that I thought you looked great. And I am always in awe of those who can channel their creativity into such fabulous works as yours. I'm very sorry about your Maltese. It is so hard to lose a pet - you do have to go through a mourning period, I think. We lost our dog, who was 16, last summer and didn't really feel ready for another until now. I married my dh when Luke (the dog) was 9 years old, so this is my first experience with a puppy. What do you think about this new name? DH even agreed to it. Our 5-year-old suddenly came up with the name Cricket, and we really think it fits. I think we could still use Shortcake as an endearment, too. Believe it or not, it even ties into the girls' desire for a Disney princess name, as Cricket is one of Mulan's companions and is supposed to bring her luck :) Cricket/Shortcake now knows how to sit, lie down, and roll over, though that one requires a treat in the hand for prompting. We're still not quite there on housebreaking and I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong (if anything). She doesn't go in her crate, she does go outside when I take her, she tells me sometimes when she needs to go out but she sometimes goes again inside or she will pee outside and then poop inside. Luckily, the floor is hardwood, but I always said I'd never had a pet that pooped in the house. Hopefully, it's a temporary training situation....See Morenewhostalady Z6 ON, Canada
