I'd google some coffee table displays. I like to see trays and books with different interesting objects with different heights. What I enjoy looking at and what's practical for us are two different things though. Mine (ottoman) currently has a large woven basket with handles and inside is a picture of my kids (not a popular idea here) in coordinating frame, a few books selected paying attention the subject and color and on top of the books is a silver revere bowl that holds the remotes. There's still room for feet and other things and the display makes me smile.

@katinparadise in front of the slider is a rear speaker and a black shelf sitting next to our entry way (I'm working on decluttering and possibly replacing I'm just running out of display places that I so desperately need). - Sorry I just realized you were asking what was sitting infront of the window its a stick of flaoting ikea shelves that i picked up for a good price. Thats what i was thinking of using but, like i said now that im looking at it. I'm not a fan (Still using them in the Man Cave though for figurines and such) as far as wall decor goes I'm glad you think the same about the shelves... though I cant seem to find any large canvases that I love. I was looking at some gold metal work instead, but a single large piece just seems so underwhelming in that size of a space. Multiple pieces might look better.... I've seen some photo groupings in the British colonial style and love the idea of them but also sometimes look a little cluttered if not done right as well as the rest of the room doesnt have the "collector" feel to it that you would generally see that... but if you have some inspiration photos that show what you are thinking I'd totally love to see it

When someone is sitting on the couch what are they looking at? I like what you have and agree with adding some color but I find the vase & grass (?) too tall and if sitting on the couch would have to be looking through the vase to something?
