DIY mudroom tile - subfloor advice needed (Bill V, Mongo, etc.)
Comments (2)Also, I know we can't put down SLC over the glue that's on the slab currently. Frankly, I'm concerned about using SLC successfully anyhow - we have two doorways and two staircases to work around. Can we do something else to level the floor? It's not terribly uneven. What about installing cement board with thinset? We could use the Laticrete 254 Platinum (or whatever product you recommend) and level the floor with the thinset. Would that work? I don't think cement board is normally recommended for concrete floors, but if it's feasible I think it might be the best bet....See MoreAlcove between kitchen/mudroom and garage - layout advice needed
Comments (20)Hmmm. Good thoughts all. Many thanks. This is a perfect example of the usefulness of this forum, because even though I thought we'd collected all possible alternatives, you all offered two quick new ones I hadn't considered. I don't think moving the steps into the garage will work, because of space & cost. The roll-up door seems crazy at first, but I sort of see where you're going, since it would seal off the garage but avoid possible conflict between the swing of the two doors in the alcove. At this point, I'm leaning toward just putting a solid door in the same spot it used to be: on the left side of the photo, with a swing into the alcove. That will keep vermin out of the garage. We can live there for a while and see how we use the entrance post-renovation. Since not much else is dependent on this door, we can make adjustments in a year or two when we're more informed. Thanks everyone!...See MoreNeed advice for a mudroom update
Comments (11)Thanks for looking up the paint colour name for me. All the bulbs are going to LEDs, I think. You might have 5000Ks installed where you might prefer 4000Ks or 3500Ks instead. Or vice-versa. Playing around with this variable can get annoying but sometimes, it's necessary. We spend so much time trying to find the perfect wall colour and then our light bulbs muck everything up. (Everything seemed simpler with incandescents.) I think those greys will go with your cream but I really don't think they'll "liven" up the space. But that's my opinion. It's your home and what matters is what you and your husband like. If you're happy with the cream in your kitchen, have you considered using that in the mudroom? There are other colours as well...how about green? :) Good luck! I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions. Finding the "right" colour is part of the fun, right?...See MoreNeed advice for mudroom update
