How can we create better flow between an 8ft and 12ft ceiling?
Comments (14)Here are a couple of photos of the way we transitioned our bowling alley. View of the bowling alley from the lower-ceilinged dining room: View of the transition wall (we also painted the high ceilings a dark brown to help the volume ceiling feel less intimidating in comparison): View from upstairs (you can see how the loft hung out over the foyer): View of the living room part of our bowling alley: Hope that helps a little....See MoreCreating Better Orchids For Mediterranean Climates
Comments (25)Dar, yesterday I visited a friend in Eagle Rock who had this fragrant orchid growing and blooming in lots of shade... Regarding your paucity of substantial trees... not sure if you already saw this thread... Cool Growers x Warm Growers?... but if you scroll down you can see some ideas for ways to fairly quickly increase the amount of relatively substantial hosts in your yard. I have some fairly large Ficus benjaminas that I plan on chopping down if you're interested. Yesterday I gave a friend some cuttings to try and root so that she can use them as a host for the broms and Tillandsias that I've given her. I have a Washingtonia on my sidewalk as well. But it's definitely no spring chicken. When the old fronds fall from such great heights I run from cover in order to avoid a concussion or worse. Of course I've thought about attaching epiphytes to its trunk. But I'd probably go with Myrmecophilas rather than Laelias because it's pretty exposed and I probably wouldn't water them very often. That's neat that you have a Hylocereus Halley's Comet trained up your palm! I also tried something similar a while back but... not sure what happened. How's your Halley's Comet compared to the common varieties? Do you have to hand pollinate it? I have both the red and white flesh varieties rambling around the front yard. Maybe you could try attaching the orchids directly to the Hylocereus? A while back I attached a Vanda tricolor to a variegated Monstera that's climbing up my tree....See MoreHelp deciding which“size” & which color scheme gallery wall to create!
Comments (11)I have a gallery wall because I have too much art to display any other way. It is much more eclectic than any of the above inspiration pics, as it includes photos, paintings, wood-block prints, and a wood-burned piece, in a variety of colors and sizes (from 4"x4" to 30"x36"). There are white, wood, black, and gold frames. I laid everything out digitally before hanging, and what I found was that the key was balance. My two white frames are at opposite ends of the display, wood frames are scattered throughout, etc. I tried to balance colors as well, so for example red is scattered throughout. You want to balance the visual weight of things, which can be affected by the composition, color, and the presence of a mat. It's definitely harder to make a gallery wall work when you have a mix of pieces. And I'm sure some people would think my wall is too chaotic, but it pleases me....See MoreNeed help with our accent wall(better pictures), thank you.
Comments (1)It would have been much easier to paint the ceiling before you painted the walls. I am not fond of the white accent wall. I would rather see it the color of your other walls. which appear to be a very pretty mint color....See MoreMarlene Crep
