Which 30 inch range under 30 inch induction unit?
Comments (12)jama - Off hand I can't say how much difference there is between my under induction oven and range to the floor, but here are the measurements of my oven under the induction: - the top of the oven door is 7 3/4" below the countertop - the oven door is 23" high - the bottom of the door is 5 7/8" from the floor I took a photo of the bottom so you can see that there is still cabinet trim under the door and the full amount of toekick space as the rest of the cabinets. The cooktop and oven were installed by a Miele installer so I'm assuming everything is up to par. The first photo gives you a view of the induction above the oven. Hope that helps!!! But, from what others say, maybe you won't have a long wait for an Electrolux after all if you decide to go that route. Best wishes in whatever you decide. And as for your question why do I like the Miele better? - It seems to do an overall nicer job, bakes more evenly, baked goods have a nicer appearance, etc. I used to have a basic oven in my old kitchen and didn't know there was such a difference between different brands. The only reason I bought the Miele oven was because I needed the same brand under the induction. The price was not something I was happy about, and I even got a floor model that was marked down more than $1,000, but now that I see how well it works, I find myself wishing I would have sprung for both Miele ovens....See MoreInstalling 30' oven under 36' induction cooktop??
Comments (7)I've got a 27" electric oven beneath a 36" gas cooktop. My GC said the oven didn't actually need a cabinet at all, as long as the base it sits on is level and strong. He built a platform base, on which the oven stands. Then he mounted a panel on the front, with a cut-out exactly the size required in the oven installation instructions. This was sprayed to match my cabinets exactly. The oven just slid into the hole. The panel idea should answer both 1) and 2). However, my GC did suggest that if I wanted to make the whole thing look more integrated, he could cover the visible pieces of the panel with stainless steel (my oven is SS). It wasn't the look I wanted, so we didn't do it, but it could look good. 3) you need to check clearance distances carefully for each appliance: we ended up raising the countertop by about a half-inch in order to ensure the correct gap beneath the cooktop. Not an issue for me, but you need to check the clearance requirements, which will be in the installation instructions or the manufacturer's website....See MoreNeed advice on mid priced 30 inch gas cooktops
Comments (2)I can't answer your specific questions, but I want to advise you to consider a rangetop instead of a cooktop. It sounds like you are already aware that usually people buy cooktops in the 36" or larger size. That's because the knobs take up quite a bit of real estate of the cooking surface. A rangetop on the other hand, is like just the top part of a range, so that the knobs are not on the cooking surface, but instead are facing you on the same plane as the cabinet doors. The cooktops you are looking at with 5 burners will be a tight squeeze for your pots. You should go to a store that has them on display, and bring with you the frypan and pot you use the most, and see how they fit. If you cannot go to a 36" size, then a rangetop will be a better choice. You will have more room for your pans, and you won't have to worry that the knobs are too close to the hot pans, which may make the knobs hot, or may make you have to be careful when reaching your hand to use the knobs if they are so close to the hot pans. I also like the look of a rangetop - it has a more "professional kitchen" look, just MHO. Since you mentioned Electrolux, I looked up their 30" rangetop - which unfortunately they confusingly call a "slide-in cooktop". It does not have 5 burners, but perhaps you will like it anyway. I will link it below. If you want 5 burners in a 30" rangetop, the only one I found was by Capital. Capital has an excellent reputation on this forum as being one of the really top-notch brands. But they are priced pretty high too. Frankly, do you really think you will need 5 burners? Look at how you cook, and see how many burners you have going at once. 5 burners may be unnecessary, and crowd your cooking surface too. Comments (7)Also keep in mind that you are introducing a source of heat under the induction cooktop. Heat and electronics do not play well together. It is possible that you may shorten the life of the cooktop if you are not careful about the choice you make. This is probably why manufacturers insist upon using like products in this configuration. They may have ways to expel the heat with their own equipment. If I were designing something like this venting would be a priority in my remodel. It would probably involve small fans that had access to cool air to introduce into the cavity for the cooktop and possibly one to expel the warmer air. Preferably outside, however outside the cavity into the kitchen area is preferable than trying to cool with hot air. I believe keeping the electronics cool is key to a long useful life for appliances. Especially ones that produce heat....See Moreremodelitornot
