Installing 30' oven under 36' induction cooktop??

We are planning to purchase a 36" Monogram induction cooktop and a 30" Monogram single oven. I know the Monogram ovens can be placed under Monogram cooktops, but my questions are the following:

1) How do you secure a 30" oven within a 36" cabinet (which we need to use to house the cooktop)?

2) How do make the front look "right" with a 30" oven in a 36" cabinet?

3) Anything else we should be thinking of?

I've got a 27" electric oven beneath a 36" gas cooktop.

My GC said the oven didn't actually need a cabinet at all, as long as the base it sits on is level and strong. He built a platform base, on which the oven stands. Then he mounted a panel on the front, with a cut-out exactly the size required in the oven installation instructions. This was sprayed to match my cabinets exactly. The oven just slid into the hole.
The panel idea should answer both 1) and 2). However, my GC did suggest that if I wanted to make the whole thing look more integrated, he could cover the visible pieces of the panel with stainless steel (my oven is SS). It wasn't the look I wanted, so we didn't do it, but it could look good.
3) you need to check clearance distances carefully for each appliance: we ended up raising the countertop by about a half-inch in order to ensure the correct gap beneath the cooktop. Not an issue for me, but you need to check the clearance requirements, which will be in the installation instructions or the manufacturer's website.

If you have sufficient room, you could place them in different cabinets.

I like having all of the cooking activity in one area. Don't forget, that's all that was available till about 1960 or so. The one unfortunate part of my set-up is that the fan for the micro-hood (I have the Kenmore Advantium microwave/speedcook/convection unit above the cooktop) is not particulary effective, mostly because the fan openings are rather small and not situated where they will do the most good. It would also help if the thing was designed to better corral the steam & fumes toward the fan. Those over-the-range units are very convenient, but nobody seems to have made the fans very effective. Could be in part because customers don't complain enough.

The biggest reason you don't see larger induction ranges is that the 30" ones are already at the limit of most American electrical systems as they exist. 40-50 amp circuits are all that exist currently in most homes in a range location and most American homes only have 200 amp services. If a larger range with larger needs for power were introduced, it would for sure require rewiring as a condition of it's use. And in the typical home, 200 amps of service is already pushing the limit on usage with all of the TVs, computers, and other eletronic gadgetry that are in a modern home. (It's the same reason why you seldom see a retrofit for an electric tankless water heater.) Commercial installations that use large induction hobs typically have access to 3 phase power and MUCH larger service runs. You only have to look at the different electrical requirements between a typical 1970 home and a 2010 home to see how many more circuits are now needed. Start adding in a power hungry range that needs a 70 amp circuit, and you start talking a LOT of money to rewire the run from the pole, a new panel, and the new run for the range. It's just not economically feasable for any maker to introduce something like that at this time. Youd need a paradigm shift in new home construction to make it happen. Wolf 36" L series wall oven under a 36" induction cooktop?

Does anyone have this oven? It looks like it is 3 or 4 inches shorter in height than the 30" wall oven. Since I can't find a 36" induction range, I am considering putting a 36" induction cooktop and this 36" wide Wolf oven underneath it. Would that work? I read that it is not good ergonomically to do this because the oven will be very low, but if this Wolf oven is shorter in height would that help a bit? As in it could be installed a few inches higher off the floor than the 30" one? If I could get a 36" induction range I would not have to consider this alternative. I could do a 36" duel fuel range instead, but I wanted to change to induction over gas. Related to this question - are any companies making/going to make a 36" induction range? I really need the extra room on the cooktop part.

The main differences in the cooktops (besides price) are (1) Wolf has a control layout that I prefer--I like the touchpad on the side, (2) texture vs. slick top, and (3) timers on the Miele actually turn off burners, but not on the Wolf. I only know that from excessive shopping, not actual use. And I know less about ovens, but I wouldn't feel compelled to get matching brands unless the separate units were both what you wanted. Half off sounds nice...But it's OK to go half Wolf and half Miele unless they look really bad together.

We have the 30" Monogram induction cooktop over the 30" Monogram Oven with a wood hood with a Prestige vent insert above the cooktop. Installed in 2008. Works great no problems. Originally wanted the 36" cooktop but decided it would not fit well with cabinets. Burners on 30" have proved to be adequate in number. Also purchased Berndes Tricion cookware which works well on induction.

Be careful to double check with the manufacturer if it is permissible to install an oven beneath an induction cooktop. Recently a client of ours planned to do this.

It was stated by the manufacturer; Bosch, Kitchenaid & Thermador that this was not recommended. The electromagnetic fields created by the induction cooktop, very likely would negatively affect the electronic controls in the oven.

GE have oven appliances of their own brand that they deem compatible with their induction units and also others of their own brand which are not as far as they are concerned.

It likely depends on if it makes economic sense to go back and update old designs.

Miel seems confident their products have no problems in that area when folks have asked them.

It's not a matter of EMF. It is a matter of heat and air circulation.

You can use a 30" cabinet to house the cooktop but you would need to knotch out the top of the cabinet and be aware of space constraints to either side. Like you would have to narrow any drawers on each side by a couple of inches.

As to putting a 30" oven into a 36" cabinet, you can build a frame around the oven inside the cabinet very easily. The cabinet maker should be able to provide the front for you as well.
