Electrolux Icon Dual Wall Oven; Any experience?
Comments (13)The icon has two fans (well, 4 since it's a double:)). Each oven has an exhaust fan, which is actually pretty quiet and a convection fan which does stay on the whole time you are using a convection feature. The convection fan turns off when you open the oven, though. My oven has an issue with the locking mechanism for the bottom oven. It keeps saying it's locked when it's not and makes a beeping sound when I open the bottom oven. It has something to do with the lock motor and the central computer board. Since the oven was purchased at the end of June and I became aware of the problem when we moved into our new house in September. They tried several things, were on the phone with Electrolux tech support and finally said that it just couldn't be fixed. That's the story in a nutshell....See MoreElectrolux Icon Users?
Comments (25)lakeshorebuilder, The inside glass on my Icons isn't hard to keep looking nice. I wipe it off after most uses, and occasionally give it a scrub, and it looks fine. My only cleaning concern with the ovens is that dust can get between the inner and outer glass. Probably not a concern in most households, but we have several pets, and get the occasional dog or cat hair between the panes. Maybe if I were a better housekeeper . . . At any rate, I don't get fur in the oven cavity, so it's not that big of a deal to me. Certainly not something that would keep me from buying the ovens again since the doors are among my favorite features. Not only are they very pretty, and get all kinds of compliments, but they really do stay as cool as Electrolux says they will, even during self-cleaning. Not just the outside of the doors, but the inside edges and tops, too. That's nice when you're short like me. No worrying about leaning against a hot door while reaching for a dish. As for the size, the ovens are smaller than the oven on the range they replaced. However, other than needing new cookie sheets, that hasn't been a problem, and the ability to bake on several racks at the same time has more than compensated for the loss of a few inches. The racks end well before the glass, so I really think there's more usable space than the rack dimensions would lead you to believe. I haven't used the warming feature yet, so I can't comment on it. However, if it works as well as the rest of the features, it should be great. The full-extension racks were what really sold me on the ovens, and have been a big help. Once again, I'm short, so it makes a big difference to me to be able to pull the racks so far out of the oven. The tall salesperson thought I was nuts for making such a big deal out of racks (she kept saying I could just lift stuff out from the side), but every inch counts at my height. I do wish the racks didn't slide back in as easily as they slide out. Not a big problem, but they tend to slide back in while I'm stirring a dish or lifting something out with both hands. Other than that slight flaw, the racks are absolutely wonderful. I recently needed to use the conventional rack in one of the ovens to get a position not offered by the rolling racks, and was so glad that I didn't have to use it all the time. I had forgotten just how far regular racks DON'T pull out of the oven, and how much harder they are for me to use. One other small gripe--unless I'm missing something, there's just one timer for two ovens. Kind of annoying when I had both ovens going with Christmas cookies. I just got out another timer and dedicated it to the bottom oven so I could keep everything straight, but it would have been nice to use the control panel for timing both ovens. Since their June installation, the ovens have been used great deal, and I am very happy. I would definitely buy them again. In fact, DH is considering a job change, and has already been told that if we move, there will be new Icons bought for our new house....See MoreElectrolux (Icon) or Wolf wall oven questions
Comments (27)I just posted this information in another thread but I thought it might be helpful here. First of all, I would like to state that I never considered Wolf ovens, soley because of price. We actually had a pretty large kitchen budget (and made it even bigger as we went along), but I just didn't want to spend nearly 10% of my budget on an oven. I would say that I expect a Wolf oven to perform better, because it does cost more than twice as much. I saw the one post saying that it will last twice as long, well I'm not sure if that's true, but I don't think I want to use any oven for 40 years, assuming the Electrolux only lasts 20 years. What I posted in the other thread is about our non-Icon Double 30" Electrolux ovens. From everything I can see and read it appears as though they are the same, minus appearance and number of easy glide racks. Speaking of appearance, I think both Electrolux actually look nicer than the Wolf ovens, but that is a personal preference. I think the nicest looking oven is the Thermador with the large round clock and controls, but that costs as much as Wolf, and is made right along side, with many same components, as a Bosch oven. Our Electrolux was installed this August, they seemed fine, until we released the time was running fast on the clock. No big deal. Then we noticed things were taking much longer to cook in the top oven than the bottom, as well as taking much longer to get to temperature. After buying some after market thermometers, we saw the top oven was running 150 degrees below what it said it was running at, unless convection was picked. Bottom oven seemed to run closer to desired temp, but still off a bit. Called Electrolux and had a service company take a look at it. We were not happy about having these problems in an expensive (and new) oven, and requested a replacement. Electrolux said they would get back to us. 1 week later we found out the swap was approved. New oven was delivered, and the temps are running dead on perfect. Every product can have a one off lemon, it's how they deal with it. I am VERY pleased with the service we received, and I would happily recommend Electrolux to anyone who is interested. FYI, regarding the blue flaking, we did have it on both the original oven and the replacement. After the oven was first installed and ran, there were some flakes on the bottom of the oven. After wiping them out the first time, we have never seen them occur again. I attribute it to the first time the oven is moved and not a big deal as it never happened a second time Lastly, regarding Mac vs Dell, that comment was nonsense. Compare a $1500 Macbook Pro with a Dell Latitude E series. The Dell is actually better made, its just the OS (Win 7) that isn't as nice. People think of crummy Dell's because of the cheap $400 laptops they buy at Staples. Problem is the cheapest Mac you can buy is $1000, so you might as well compare Apples to Apples (pun intented)....See MoreElectrolux Icon E30EW85GSS Double Wall Oven issues
Comments (12)The first Electrolux oven (a single) we had wouldn't fit in the cabinet. The cabinet hole was square, but the oven was not. The box looked fine, but the whole thing was racked. We had our contractor take it back and we ordered another one. We were there when he unloaded it. Box looked fine, When we opened the door, both corners of the box down by the hinge had an alarming amount of distintively-blue "powder"-- fine glass shard from the enamel. We couldn't see visible cracks, but that was just too scary after reading about the blue enamel issues of the past. Took that one back, ordered a third. Were starting to think that maybe a whole container got dropped onto a dock or something. Something stressful had happened in the door hinge area. Third time, we unpacked the carton ourselves on the loading dock at the warehouse. There was some blue dust, but not nearly as much as before. We accepted this one, and now counters have been installed over it and work is marching on, but it hasn't been used yet, so only time will tell if we should have accepted that one or just moved on. We were also considering a Bosch as a contender. Then just recently, I read here about one catching on fire. You can always get a lemon, but it's not like there are some 100% reliable options out there. Fingers crossed for both of us!...See MoreMelanie See
