Where are you located geographically?

if otherwise zone appropriate ... they do not need to be in the garage ... the only issue might be moisture accumulation in the pots.. especially if the pots might freeze ...

and you can most likely just plant them now .. since they really arent a cold zone plant anyway ..

so it really depends on where you are ..

and keep in mind.. though it might be a bit chipper out there to be working in wet soil ... generally.. the plants dont care .. if your hands get cold . the rest of you wont be from all the digging ..

Thank you Ken, I don't really have anywhere to plant them right now. Maybe next year and hopefully they will be bigger. I thought about just digging a temporary hole and put them all in and just over up the pots in dirt. Maybe that will keep them from freezing and I can just dig up the pots when I'm ready.

Depending on your location, which you have neglected to provide, you may not need to do anything more than just group them altogether in an out of the way location.

hey plantlady21, are you posting from eastern US? If so below pic is what your Leyland Cypress will one day look like. Cut your losses and dispose of them. Around here we don't have new plantings of them because of disease problems. This is a 2015 pic in Maryland.

Another thing that happens - this time regardless of geographic location - is them falling over after the tops get big enough because they were held in small pots too long, became root bound before planting. Since yours may perfectly well have been root bound at time of purchase - a particularly prevalent circumstance with fast growing items such as this - you now trying to "store" them for half a year in the same pots will likely serve to make this worse. With main times of root growth of cold climate adapted woody plants being fall and spring. (Fall for significant elongation of existing roots, spring for initiation of new roots).

presuming your soil drains well ... if you are going to dig big enough holes for the pots... just slip them out of the pots .. in spring.. you can just slip them back in the pot if you want ...

its literally the pot that is the biggest issue ...

and i am presuming you dont have clay that will make a clay cauldron that will puddle water in the hole ...

and i will skip buying stock .. presumably at a fall bargain price.. when you dont have any clue where to put them.. lol.. been there.. done that ... lol ..
