Any feedback about home depot cabinet order
Comments (12)As far as ordering cabinets from HD, it's pretty fool proof. In our case, we did our own measuring, sat down with HD and made a plan, took it home, re-measured, and considered each and every cabinet and space before we worked up an order. Actually, we did that multiple times. In one of our "take it home" phases, we discovered that we'd mismeasured by 1" on one wall. Because HD uses a program that will not allow you to stuff a 15" cabinet into a 14" space, as soon as we corrected the wall measurement, the program highlighted what else would need to be changed. When the cabinets were set for both placement and type, we added in the extras like toe kicks and molding. Having gotten it all right in the plan, the computer program prints up a list of all the stuff that needs to be ordered - in excruciating detail. When the moment comes, you need to sign that you know exactly what you're paying for. Since we did our own measuring, we also had to sign in blood that the measurements were on us if something wasn't right. Once the order was in, all was good. The cabinets were shipped directly to us and the delivery guys were very good about making sure that what they delivered matched the paperwork. At install we had a drawer face that was just a little too big and that was resolved promptly and without fuss. For another set of cabinets we bought for our bedroom, we had them sent to HD and we picked them up from there. We were avoiding a delivery charge on that one as there we many fewer cabinets. Besides the pain of unloading those monsters at home, that also worked fine. A real concern would be if you were working with the kid who was recently hired and just lacked experience with kitchen design. This wouldn't be a bad order problem, more of an iffy design problem. Our guy had done this for years and actually likes kitchens. That does make a difference. Your degree of involvement also makes a difference. I finally talked them out of a copy of the catalog that has all the cabinet possibilities in it, so that I felt sure we had the best options chosen for our space. We did our own install, so we didn't use their subs. Had we not, I think I might have liked to hire our own installer vs. using whoever HD sent....See MoreOpen Shelving Gone wrong .. or NOT IN MY HOUSE
Comments (21)Oh linelle, I burst out laughing. Isn't that always the way!? I had someone outside on the porch (notice the not-letting-anyone-in-the-stinky-house theme?) and after a quick walk to show her a plant, we turned back to see Waylon drinking her margarita out of her glass. Avoiding the salt. adioron, in theory. If it's on already, i.e. triggered by me, yes. If he triggers it, it comes on so hard, in full force, it scares the poop outta him and all I have is softly falling clouds of fur. I want to find a faucet I can set to come on in a dribble. Oh, Dawn_t! My Bentley wants to sit on the arm of a chair and lay his head on every one's shoulder. Kharma lies on their feet and turns her tummy up. I find it horribly rude if people don't pet Bentley's ears and rub Kharma's soft tummy. After all. They're making "love me, new friend!" overtures. Your brood is gorgeous! I've figured out another benefit of inset cabinet doors. On a few where I actually have overlay doors, the cats jumping on top of the cabinets has let (years of) fur sift down onto the contents between the cabinet and door. On my inset cabinets, fur and dust do not blow sideways, so the contents remain cleaner. MUCH cleaner. Score point for inset doors! :) I'd take as many cats as I could, but vet care and food are an issue. I'm staying at 5 right now unless there's a cat-astrophe and I must take in another. Like another 4-claw declaw being dumped in my yard in the middle of the night (Hank) or a post-delivery Kharma taking up residence on my porch. Hmmm... the beautiful Pits at Christmas did that, too. Must be something about the porch. But anyway. No more at the moment....See MoreBest cabinet brand at lowes or home depot?
Comments (6)I depends on what wood species and style you choose. That and the options available that you might want. My preference is framed cabinetry with a 1/2" overlay. So I ended up with Kraftmaid. They had the sizes and options I wanted/needed and their standard drawer is deeper than the others. Had I wanted full overlay or a more Euro look I would have gone with something else or maybe not. Cabinets are just boxes. After that it is all about the doors, the finishes, the trims and the other options. I haven't seen anything at the big box stores that would fail under normal use. I don't really look at the bells and whistles since most can be done aftermarket at a better price. So order what you like and what would work for your skill set. I am placing an order for 13 cabs later this week. No trims. It's a natural wood with a natural finish so we can trim it out ourselves. The only factory provided extra we get is an pre-installed tall pantry pullout for a narrow cab. It wold be a pita to add aftermarket due to the width. Also having flush ends on all cabinets that have exposed sides. Don't want to mess with putting on skins and it makes molding easier to fit. My opinion isn't the one you will see most often here but I stand by it. Construction is important to a degree but you don't need to overbuild something that holds a set of dishes. Look for the function you need and go from there....See MoreVision for new home gone wrong
