Kerdi gone wrong - or perhaps my Schluter is slipping!
Comments (9)A couple of issues have already been addressed. If the subfloor was inadequate, it should have been beefed up prior to setting the Kerdi base. Other than that, it's pretty much installer error. The Kerdi system is pretty much bullet-proof if you follow the instructions. If the base is flexing, it's due to an inadequate subfloor, an improperly set base (no thinset, wrong thinset), if the membrane isn't adhering to the sloped top of the tray again it's installer error (wrong thinset, operator error, etc). Do you know what specific adhesive they used to adhere the membrane to the base, and what specific adhesive they used to adhere the tile to the membrane? Mastic? Thinset? Premixed or powdered? Modified or non-modified? Brand name? I highly recommend calling Schluter's tech line. They're very helpful and if it's a Schluter problem, they're quite willing to fall on the sword and accept responsibility. Even when it's installer error they help out. Comments (54)Robin1190 - Sorry to hear about your experience. What did you end up doing? My husband and I are going through a similar experience; trusted the builder, they drafted the plans, we were never shown a topo survey or a story stick, but we were explicit about not having steps to the outside from the house or the service door of the garage, discussed it in several conversations and there were none on our plans so we felt we were heard...until we saw the foundation already poured and were told we'd have 4-5 steps into our front (side) door and about the same from our sliding door onto our patio (we told our builder "no deck") and 2-3 steps out of our garage service door. A huge problem because we have a narrow lot, a side entrance and the stairs prevent access to the back yard and the lake! Even if we make the stairs so you go up one side to the door then down the other side to the lake what a foreseeable royal PITA for carrying coolers, lake toys, etc from the garage to the boat. Sorry, I don't mean to go on and on...it's just so hard to see something you work so hard for be executed on so poorly and not be able to "fix" it. How did you resolve the matter? Take legal action? Any reimbursement or no charge from your builder for excavation and foundation work? Would you have any pictures of your walkway "ramp" from driveway to front door?...See MoreGood thing my new house was only on paper, It's GONE!
Comments (14)adellabedella, I can see the similarities in our floor plans! Do you have any photo's of your kitchen? I'd really like to see how it looks open like that. I have seen many floor plans with similar layouts, just not photo's. LOVE your granite, pretty, pretty, pretty! I'm going to play around with the Masterbed/bath area - just our closet space (MUST have a him and her one) is hard to work in. flgargoyle, gee... I was hoping since I was able to make that staircase squeeze in my plan.. it would work! :( but in reality.. my little $39 program is telling me your correct! Does this mean that hall need to be longer than 13'..?! Or should it go wider, staircases confuse me! As for the all windows in the kitchen.. I've been DROOLING over some photo's I have in a book and online. The house is actually going to be in reverse, which makes the kitchen side on the west. Really, the worst possible side for our FL exposure. Still - I have to go back before I finalize things and look at more kitchen inspiration photo's. chisue, GREAT suggestion in regards to fixed french doors.. I had NO IDEA they even existed.. that's why I LOVE this forum! As for the laundry area/closet /stairs.. I don't feel this area is right yet. Just not sure of a better layout, but I'm going to play with it. Maybe I'll get rid of the back staircase, which will only go up to a storage area. Currently, we have a drop down stairs, and although not the greatest, it would open the area up for more uses.. maybe even a toilet!! LOL However, storage/closet space is more on my want/need list. REALLY great feedback, and lots more food for thought.. Thanks everyone!...See MoreIt's the wrong recipe, and it's gone wrong! - Crab Cakes
Comments (24)Lou, I have a similar recipe that I use for deviled crab, and I have also substituted canned tuna for the crab with good results as well. It is also baked and then broiled. I'll have to try the salmon recipe, although I really like Marilyn's fresh salmon cakes, and I had no problem with hers falling apart. I'll have to look at her recipe again. I have a feeling now that it was the type of bread I used, as rococogurl suggested. And the recipe does call for fresh bread crumbs as opposed to dried ones. The end result was still very good, even though it was difficult to get them to stick together. I'm considering adding a bit of potato starch to the insides to see if that will make them "stickier". Carol, I had saved your recipe before (it was one of only two that I had saved), but I neglected to look at it before I started. I'll try yours next time, as it looks really more like what I wanted, which is why I saved it in the first place. As for the recipe from the Anapolis native (I saved that one also) - what is regular mustard? My first thought is that it is dried, but it might mean prepared mustard. Crab meat is so cheap right now that I will be making more variations. The first batch of cakes I did not refrigerate, but the second batch had been refrigerated over night, and it had the same problem. I'm pretty sure it is the type of bread, which gave an excellent flavor, BTW. Thanks for all the help! Lars...See MoreCEFreeman_GW DC/MD Burbs 7b/8a
