JMO - I would go for the wood garage door that matches the exterior wood panels you have on the house now unless they are different colors/different wood. Then I would do glass.

I would do the glass door, with the wood panelling surrounding it. It will give a very modern look to the house.

Do the wood. even with the translucent panels for garage doors - who need MORE glass to clean. Doors are also HEAVY and pretty bad at insulation. (not to mention they are ridiculously expensive)

Wood panels can warp and rot and need more maintenance. As will your wood panel so you can do them on the same schedule. People around here usually go for the glass.

There are tons of insulated steel doors that simulate wood well. Depends what else you have going on, on the house

Many modern/contemporary homes by me are using these "thermacore" doors (double-sided steel with spray foam between), flush panel with vertical windows. Great door, price point, and achieves the look. If it's an expensive custom house, and it fits the neighborhood, I'd do aluminum/glass. Yes they're heavier, a little more $, and less R-value, but if you wanna be gangsta you gotta do gangsta shiii

Considering another option now.. kind of a hybrid. We like the windows over garage as they bring level to the windows to its right, but also dont want to spend a $4-5K on wood door with tonnes of maintenance. So here's a new idea: to keep windows and do a simpler door with window panels like picture below.

Ours would be in Black.. matching the windows of the house.

What do you think? Does this look modern?

People (ballers) still install wood garage doors, they look the best but I'd never want to own one. Super heavy and never ending maintenance. Today's steel simulated wood doors you honestly can't tell the difference until you're a foot away.

I'd only do the transom window over the OHD if it fit the rest of the house.

I'd also be careful with black doors. They can look nice, but if they're facing the summer sun they take a beating which can result in weatherstripping issues and the door not sealing great

We have the flush panel door with obscure glass windows. Black. Very popular with modern homes in the PNW. Yes it saves a lot from glass. A lot.

One of our friends just finished building and their garage door finish is same as their cedar siding. It’s so stunning and amazing. Very modern and beautiful

For example, mine are steel. Textured grain, wood-look paint. You can achieve any look you want with maintenance free materials
