Undercabinet mounted kitchen TV recommendations
Comments (1)Your biggest issue will be the antenna. If you have a house antenna, you'll want to install a splitter and run a cable to your TV. The aerial that comes with the TV could be very cumbersome if it needs to be adjusted, especially if it has to stick out from under the cabinets. Keep in mind that each time you split the antenna cable, you lose at least 5db of signal. Depending on how many times you've already split the cable and how strong your signal is, you may have to add an amplified distribution. This is all simple to do, and worth considering. You also want to be able to plug the tv in so make sure there is a receptacle close enough where you can hide the wiring and not have to use any extension cords. Don't mount the tv where it can be exposed to steam from cooking, coffee pots, hot oven and water from the sink. If you mount it near a microwave, you will get disturbance while the microwave is running. If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, it's worth the effort. In my case, when I wake up in the morning and am having my coffee before tackling my day, it's great to catch the news and weather sitting at the breakfast nook....See MoreCan you recommend a TV for me?
Comments (3)Times have changed. 1000 for tv? I remember buying a Sony 19" CRT mail order in 1980 to save a few bucks. It was built in Japan, and shipped to NY. I bought it from an ad in a stereo mag from a NY dealer and shipped it to MN. I could not fit tv and box in my car so I tossed box and stuffed tv in backseat. I remember taking it to recycling yrs later. Now we all think a 1000 plasma is no big deal. I think any new tv is going to die long before the old CRT tv's life span....See MoreChoosing a TV console--optimal height for viewing?
Comments (8)The ideal height, which has been the accepted industry standard, is considered to be that the center of the display is at eye level from the viewing position. Since this often appears aesthetically too low when wall mounting, the placement all of the sudden has now been "called acceptable" to have the display at eye level to the bottom of the screen. So sit in your favorite chair, love seat, or sofa and have someone measure from the floor to your eyes! This is your basis for creating the most comfortable height for viewing. While initially everyone wanted the "magazine look" of a wall mount, console placement has finally become more of an "accepted option" by the magazine editors - and it's also less expensive to setup/install! Obviously, all this depends on the amount of television you actually watch and what feels comfortable for you....See Morewhat size lcd tv for family room 8.5' to 12.75' feet viewing
Comments (8)Thank you happyladi, cliff and joann, and lukkiirish for your input! I may be able to fit a 46 or 47 inch TV in the spot so now I need to look at TV stands again to see if it is doable since the stand I liked was only for a 42 inch TV. I don't want to block the windows on one of the walls since that is the only wall with windows and the only place I feel comfortable putting the TV now that I rearranged the room. If I put the TV facing the big wall, I could go bigger but then the room will be made too look smaller and when I am in the kitchen I will be looking at the back of the sofa. But it is good to know that I can go bigger and not have a problem if the TV will fit. I will measure my space and bring a tape measure also when I shop now that I have done a lot of research and read so many reviews of TVs and have an idea what feature does what and what is important. It looks like I should get 120 HZ and 1080P....See Morenini804
