Thank you! I kind of like burnt orange/horseradish color like in this bath mat, but I don't know if it will make the bathroom look more yellow? I don't want to think of yellow in the bathroom lol!

I think I'm going to get a beige or cream shower curtain... I'm just so worried about bringing out yellow in the bathroom. Yellow is just not something I want to be thinking about in the bathroom lol!

"I think I'm going to get a beige or cream shower curtain" Wait! I thought you were trying to get *away* from drab/boring! Why not go for a mixed-color flowery shower curtain? Or a geometric design - anything colorful.

Have you tried changing the bulbs to a cooler (vs warmer/more yellow) light?

On my screen, the color actually looks more beige than taupe, with more of a pink (rather than yellow) undertone. Go figure : )

I think (from some of the pictures) that the pinkish beige of the walls is making the yellow white of the floor look dirty, or vice versa. Pinkish beige always looks awful with yellowish beige. It's too bad you cannot paint, but what about a removable, bathroom-friendly (vinyl that looks like grasscloth?) wallpaper?

I agree with Beckysharp to take a look at Maria Killam's website, and learn about undertones.

Whatever you do, don't bring another beige undertone in here.

The yellowish look in your bath might be a consequence of the color of your lightbulbs. Start there. The easiest fix is a colorful shower curtain. If you want color...ADD IT. You have a neutral background. Cream, white, beige and gray are all neutrals. GO FOR COLOR!

Change the bulbs to LEDs 4000K then see what color the walls really are. Once you do that I agree get some color in there

The best one bedroom apartments that look pulled together at least acknowledge the colors from the adjoining spaces. Do you have a rug in the living space you plan to use or art or a sofa color we could see? That would at least narrow down the colors to consider. I don’t think that mat you showed would do much for the space but if it was paired with the right art, towels and shower curtain it might work.

I think any watery blue-green-gray would look soothing and spa-like in your bathroom. I know you'r not painting but I'm posting this link just to give you an idea of the colours I mean. Ok everyone, I got more pictures!! I think these pictures better show the colors of the bathroom.

The current decor will most likely not be staying. Shower curtain will be going and the bath mat is currently an old beach towel, so we will be getting a bath mat!

The countertop has yellowish undertones which you can see when you compare it to the white of the drawers...

The black and white of the shower curtain is way too much of a contrast with the walls, which I think makes them look more yellow to me.

I do agree with you all that the light bulbs may bring out more of the yellow. I will try and change them to a cooler color.

Any other advice with the new pictures? I definitely like my decor a bit more minimalist, i.e. not a ton of patterns or anything. I'd love to add in some art and fun bathroom decor, but I'm really struggling to find a color scheme. Thank you for all of your help!!

Go to Home Goods. Pick out a piece of inexpensive art that you like. Then find a bath mat, towels, etc that compliment it. Your bathroom is neutral, so just pick whatever you like.

If you read the Maria Killam blog post on beige I linked to, she discusses clean and dirty colors and undertones and how/why it happens,

"When you combine yellow and pink beige or yellow beige and pink beige, it often creates a clean and dirty combination."

This is what lerkat and I are talking about.

See if you can deal with the light first before you go shopping.

You are going to need to distract from the clashing neutrals by using art. Here's one suggestion of what you can do:

1) figure out what exactly are the undertones in the floor and the walls. You go to your local paint store and can get the paint chips Maria Killam provides here as examples of pink beige, yellow beige, etc. https://mariakillam.com/colourwheel/#benjamin-moore

Match them to the hard elements in your bathroom so you know what you are dealing with.

2) take those paint chips to the store and find some modern art (since that is your style) that has a little bit of the wall color, a little more of the color of the floor, some white, and a lot of a beautiful color such as teal/blue/green/whatever you love. The art should be large and fill that wall between the tub and the toilet (you want about 4-5" wall space on each side. Preferably, it will have a white wood frame that will be picked up by the white toilet and the shower curtain.

3) Get a mostly clean white shower curtain (to match the toilet and picture frame) that also picks up that color you love as a stripe or accent.

4) put some other art over the toilet, also to distract.

5) get some accessories that pick up your well loved color and the wall/floor neutrals for your countertop.

6) Large floor matts in either the color you love or white.

Now I have to go find some art for my own bathroom!
