Trim & Ceiling Paint Color vis-a-vis Cabinet Paint Color
Comments (10)Hi jmcgowan, Can't wait to see your F&B Pointing painted cabinets. Pointing was one of our top choices -- such a beautiful color! Our kitchen isn't that big by kitchen standards these days (it is 274 square feet). So the calm continuity of the same color on cabinets and trim works well in our ''smaller'' space. In general, however, I do like the play of different shades of white layered together in a room. So I certainly don't think there is anything wrong with picking a different white for the trim. In some cases it might add the depth or slight contrast that the room needs. My sense from your drawing is that your kitchen is quite a bit larger; perhaps that is why your architect thinks that in your space having different trim and cabinet colors will work well. I'd encourage him to tell you a bit more about his thinking on this. Again, he may well be right. In any case, once your cabinets are installed, if you decide you want to match (or not match) you can make that decision at that time. As for the counters, we had some rough ideas about what our counter top colors/material might be before we ordered the paint color for our cabinets; but we didn't know for sure. That was a bit of a gamble....See MorePaint reveal and not being on trend
Comments (53)I, too, remember you. I'm not certain what year I came over from the Mid-Atlantic Gardening board, where I joined Gardenweb in 2004, but I think it was about the same time you were here. Let me tell you, I've BTDT divorce thing, being absolutely financially screwed for the rest of my life, and legally indigent. I qualified for food stamps, but felt it wrong when I could actually work!:) But, it's a point of hitting bottom. It gets old, very fast and it sure takes time for the wounds to scab over. Heal? Maybe never, but the tread marks made from moving on squash them down. I immediately thought you'd painted the room BM 'Kasbah' which is what my den is going to be. I've been looking for a very dusty, not blue, not magenta purple for years. I'll have to look at your color in my light. I'm thinking of the ceiling in BM 'Weimeriner.' (you know, that silver gray dog color I can't spell?) GORGEOUS. I'm not doing any neutrals at all. Why should I? I, like you, live alone and have only my own bad self to please. And please me I do, or I rip it out and do it over. ("DO OVER," she screamed wildly, waving her arms!) I love the historic elements of your place. Far more interesting. Your green apple choice is way out of my radar, but I'm a red chick, so stay tuned for probably a crazy red in one of my bedrooms. :) I have a quote from J.K. Rollins I have written on my unfinished drywall. I laugh wryly when I read it and close my door leaving the world outside: "Rock bottom is the foundation upon which I've (re)built my life." Yeah baby! Welcome back. Great choice....See MoreWhat's the next paint color trend?
Comments (1)imo, if it is a color you love or it works great in your room then that is what you should use. this year they were saying blues and pinks. we are using lots of blues in furnishings, not so much pink. I do not think it will over take grays though. you also missed a few inbetween, the taupe\greige time and the tan time. in reality the rule is you should furnish your room, then pick your paint to go with that mix....See Moreceiling bulkheads/beams-wall or ceiling paint colour??
Comments (7)I think with the beams I would go with one color for walls and ceilings. It does not have to be white. What you need to know is what are your favorite color combinations and what neutral and what white you like with your colors. I think your bay window could really stand out with a contrasting trim. It would draw your attention to the window and the beams can fade into the room color. Pick colors you love, know how you want to incorporate those colors in your design, then pick a neutral, pastel or white that works with your colors. As long as the color combination makes your heart sing that is all that really matters....See MoreDonna Esnard
