Gray cabinets are done with. And will never go with that flooring. Never. Pick something else. A color pulled from nature. Ot strip them and go back to wood. That’s what the hot new trend is. Wood cabinets. Not painted.

It’s possible to find near neutrals, blacks, whites and greys from every Hue Family, including that of your floor, which appears to be either in the Red or Yellow-Red Hue Family.

The only trouble is, near neutrals from approx 40°-90° on the Color Wheel can shift

purple-ish in imbalanced light situations. They aren’t purple and don’t have purple ‘undertones’, it’s simply an effect of light quality. It doesn’t happen in every room..

But they would need careful testing in your space to see how they will behave for you.

Unless you are considering selling your home anytime soon, then choose colours that give you pleasure.

I would do a white for the walls, Decorator White has just a tint of gray.

I question your rational for painting the cabinets and second what herbflavor said - and what the design domino effect will be. Really the only wall color that will look good is white and what will that do to adjoining spaces - going to white walls can make spaces look unfinished unless the whole design revolves around that choice. Again, design domino effect.

I’d argue that your soffit should be painted to match your white cabinets to make that visually ‘go away’ and that the island could maybe be the repose gray. Best to see photos of the adjoining spaces.

We just moved to this house in July, it will be our forever home.
So for wanting to paint cabinets: they were painted in 2015? and are showing some decent signs of wear (some is almost off on the knob above the trash can). They used a flat paint and it’s SO hard to wipe clean from little hand prints. This definitely will have a ripple effect, which is why I’m trying to plan in advance. I just repainted the living room in sea salt and the dining room is untouched by me, admire the handmade window treatments from the previous owner!

I like how all the colors go together currently. If you are determined to paint, what about doing the cabs in that blue and doing the walls white? I am also concerned how a grey would go with that beautiful floor.

A bad paint job like that will need to be stripped. You can’t put good over bad. You just took an average 7-9K job and added 50% to it. Save your money. Plan for replacement. It’s more long term cost effective.

June, luckily we will do this work ourselves! I’d love to hear your suggestions for a paint color that would go with the flooring, walls and/or cabinets. Especially because I have an entire other room (dining)that needs saved from that awful shade of peach it is now.

flat paint is likely the issue. For a middle of the road approach I would get that white in a semi gloss and do the fronts . Do some prep for this but stripping is not worth it. The best semi gloss cabinet/trim paint w the prep you are willing to do will look better than what you have and give you some time and not cut into your budget for something else you will do .....in the future..... Saving for a bigger project several years down the road should be the way forward.

Or what about painting the cabinets and soffit sea salt? That would also look nice with the floor.

I love sea salt, however I used that in our foyer and living room. If it’s in the kitchen, my entire house will be sea salt.

A dark grey with some blue tint could look nice for the cabinets, keep the walls light, white or off white. We painted our old cabinets with Benjamin Moore Advanced. Sand, sand and then sand some more. Prime with at least 2 coats. We did a satin finish because I don't like very glossy cabinets but we don't have kids so semi-gloss may be better. Also random tip, I have 3 dogs and they got dirt and grime on all my baseboards and I had trouble scrubbing it off so I used some cheap makeup wipes and it worked perfectly, guess the oils and dirt mix and a regular cleaner won't get the oil off.

It doesn't say ☹ maybe some of the ladies here who are well versed in SW can help or one of those color dropper apps.

That was a helpful video nhb22 - I think the big question is can this space support light or dark cabinets? If you go light you can do COLOR on the wall. If you do dark cabinets you will want to go LIGHT on the wall (white /no color). If you did seasalt in LR and are happy with it it may need the kitchen area in a light white to balance that / make it all make sense and not be an overload of bluish green colors that are close in tones. I would argue that that dark gray cabinet is NOT a good family member to sea salt walls right near it. Why not stay on the sea salt color flute and go with something like SW Retreat or Pewter Green for the kitchen cabinets? Then you are staying within a family of colors. Origami white on the walls AND the uppers and soffit in the kitchen would compliment the Retreat / Pewter Green color and make the kitchen not too heavy and dark. Check it out.
