Are these a bad idea? Have better ones??? (Lots of pics)
Comments (12)timber I saw that! That's what sort of got me going - then I saw this pic on the Schoolhouse site. One of the kitchens in the Willow entry are the same backless stools in gray, in Martha's kitchen. :-) I LOVE the Giannetti design ones - but I think they might be too much, plus they're WAY out of the budget. Those lyon stools with backs are only $70 each!!!! Palimpsest, maybe you're just telling me what I want to hear, but thank you for your input. :-) I really value your opinion on here. (not that I don't value others, of course!) Aww timber thanks for asking about kitty. This is the first really warm day we've had, so she and I are sunning on the deck, which she loves. :-) She isn't looking too hot (has a cancerous bone tumor growing on her jaw, poor baby) but she seems pain free and happy. she scared me earlier in the week when we got some blood, but it seems to have stopped. I think it's b/c her upper teeth were poking her lower gum, which is pretty deformed now. So sad. Yes!! The sink got installed, everything turned out OK. DH is at the house now, likes the island as is (I assume you saw that post) so it's staying. Whew, one less thing to worry about. :-) I am still waiting for him to send me pics. *tap* *tap* *tap* I should have just posted this pic to begin with - GC still has to do filler piece between sink and cabinet doors. (among other things LOL.)...See MoreNEED ADVICE on updating 1990s wood trim, floors, doors, etc.
Comments (16)jessica,,doors are much easier to change than the floors, so get a darker tone like the walnut. on the doors that face the wood floor, maybe you could have the flooring guy strip the doors and apply the same stain/finish to them? you may be able to do it yourself. if you give the doors a light sanding, 120-150 grit, you may be able to go over them w/a gel stain in the special walnut. (try varathane or General Finishes, no Minwax!) they look like Doug Fir. it will take away the orange tone and add a bit more depth to them. maybe try it on a door you plan on painting? like the inside of a room or something? if you can, remove it from the hinges, lay it on a sawhorse, do the sanding to remove the top coat, wipe w/a mineral spirits to clean, let dry a bit, then wipe on the gel stain, working it in and wiping off the excess. dries in a few hours. you should see a change. you are removing the carpet on the stairs? do we know what's underneath them? are the treads oak? are you putting in a runner? what color are you doing the walls? if doing a light color, you could redo the handrail in the same tone as the floor or the treads/risers. All depends where you're going w/that....See MoreUpdating Exterior on Wooded lot
Comments (15)The other issue which I do not understand is all the concrete in front. Where is your driveway and garage? If you landscape the area around the tree, then you will be blocking your front door. I will caution you that if you are in an area that has warm summers, that tree will provide a lot of shade and shade = money savings on A/C. I finally had to take out one of my ash trees which was close to the house because (1) emerald ash borer arrived (2) it was planted too close to the house (3) I wanted a patio (4) I put in a conservatory. But now that part of the house is like an OVEN. I replanted shade trees, 10 of them, on the acreage, but I won’t get to enjoy them in my lifetime - it will be for the next owner - just remember it took 50 years to get that tree that large before you decide to chop it down. I did a landscape plan of shade plants, rhodendrom, hydrangea, fern, hostas, creeping phlox, etc....See MorePaint color with a LOT of stained wood trim
Comments (20)I lived in an apartment with similar wood trim and was deciding between BM stonington gray and BM revere pewter, which another poster suggested. (I also tried abalone). I painted swatches on several walls with different light saturations and watched them over the course of a day. I ended up choosing BM revere pewter and loved it until we moved out. I think it's really helpful to observe your actual light in your home with these gray colors as they can have purple, blue and even green tones depending on the time of day and light....See MoreRelated Professionals
