Need a paint color for empty house with dark wood trim
Comments (5)If you have an 80's home, that stained trim may not be anything special. You might just be better off painting it too and giving the house a lighter look. As far as color everyone always suggests beige because it is safe. There are other 'not in your face' colors that will work. A light yellow might work with your house, particularly a vanilla or something that would compliment the gold in the room. You can paint darker colors, but that tends to make a room look darker and smaller. If you truly want something a bit darker, I might go as far as a medium color, but wouldn't go any darker than that....See MoreHow to update LOTS of Dark wood trim/ Update paint to lighten
Comments (20)Well that is the dilemma... I actually like some of the wood trim. I think the dining room looks great. Has a bit of character. Im just trying to find the proper "balance" of where I should paint some trim... My husband is ready to have someone come in and paint it ALL WHITE... everything.. I'm like noooooo!!!! So my immediate mission is to "update" and lighten the home without making everything ALL white and losing ALL warmth and character of the home. I dont know what "fixes" I should start with. Doors? Staircase risers and rails? I don't want "all white trim" going up in every room. That means white doors everywhere... once you start... it just keeps going. I have archway into dining room... if it gest painted white it will look weird to have white on one side and brown on the other... so there goes the wood in the dining room......See MoreHow to update 80s wood trim and brick living room
Comments (13)We would like to remodel the whole house room by room as we enjoy doing most of the work ourselves. Refinishing the wood floors is on my list after my toddler exits the hell on wheels stage. I don't believe the tile is under the kitchen cabinets, I definitely want to change the kitchen layout. The roof, living room windows, and kitchen appliances are damaged and need replaced this year. I also need to replace all the bathroom sinks because they are not kid friendly. I'm considering putting in more substantial baseboards as the current ones seem very cheap compared to the crown. I agree with updating all the lighting and adding updates through furniture and decor for now. Thank you all for the advice! It helps to have outside opinions....See MoreHow to paint without making dark wood look dated?
Comments (6)Your kitchen cabinets don't look dated to me. I would be careful painting the room a cream color because of the shiny white backsplash. That being said, there might be cream that will work - just make sure it complements instead of clashes with the backsplash unless you're going to replace it....See Morepartim
