Hostas Hosta Exchange

Hosta trade anyone?

I just thinned out my hosta bed after a number of years of healthy growth. I am not sure of the variety as they were here when I moved into the house. They have medium sized solid green leaves and tall spires of lavender flowers. They look exactly like hosta honeybells and if I had to guess, I would say that is the correct variety. They bloom in early July here in zone 6/7. I have quite a lot of plants and I would like to trade for something interesting. I would like to use these plants to acquire some new plants for my garden so these plants are for trading, not for postage. Please let me know what you have to offer.

Paty, you might have better luck asking locally with garden clubs or freecycle, nextdoor etc.

Hostas used to be called "the friendship plant" mostly because people would be happy to share divisions. For many years Hosta Forums would have trading events, and even Surprise Santa drawings so you could hardly wait for that package on your doorstep.

All that ended with the discovery of HVX the hosta virus. ;--(

Siam Before you order any hosta seed or hostas, go to this forum and ask about growing hosta in your zone, which, by the way is......????? http://www.perennialnursery.com/forums/index.php .......click on the hosta forum and there is a hosta seed/hybridizing subforum that will answer all your questions. I have a large collection but stopped collecting actively when I could not successfully hybridize hostas in my zone 7 climate, al least to the extent I wanted to hybridize. Now, I just enjoy the heck out of these beautiful perennials ..........they are especially pristine and lovely as they emerge at this time of year. I could use many....some I have had my eye on is..but not limited to these first frost autumn frost june fever liberty and maybe a gold hosta of some kind... really don't like the mini hostas here is a pic of a couple halcyon's I have..petty decent sized plants..

well ami ... we in MI just had 4 weeks in single digit temps ... so there isnt much action anywhere in the cold areas ... and hosta dont do all that good.. the warmer your zone .. so though you may be ready, willing and able to get a move on spring.. you just arent going to find many hosta peeps that are ABLE .. trust me.. after an intensely cold winter.. i am ready .. but mother earth is not able .. are hosta appropriate for your zone???? anyway ... try the exchange forum.. but dont expect much until the ground thaws in a vast majority of the US ... ken

OK, They definitely could be undulata erromena too. I have never payed attention to whether they are fragrant or not. So if they are honeybells, would I have to get close to the plant to smell them or would I be able to smell them as I was walking by from about 10 feet away? I have a good size bed, probably about 30-40 bloom stalks.

I guess trading Hostas might be a thing of the past. :-(

I have Honeybells..you would've noticed the fragrance it's nice..and the blooms are white..the leaves are usually prettier..I had a nasty spring frost..
