First I would suggest you post this in the kitchen forum as you'll get better advice. However before you do, I suggest you read this: Kitchen Forum Advice Just to ask for advice without giving any info about yourself, your family, the layout of the rest of your home will not garner any advice because each family and each home is different. cpartist: Great comments! I totally agree with you about moving the chairs and loosing the one on the end of the island (and adding in the prep sink & trash). Aisles are 4ft wide, except the one created between the island and the cooktop/oven which is 5ft The 21ft width and all of the entrances to the space are a challenge any thoughts on reconfiguring the space (maybe I need to use a range to save space?). I haven't quite figured out what to use the cabinets on the bottom, or the ones near the refrigerator for yet - one thought is to put a larger recycling center there perhaps, or a charging/mail station? There is an exit to the deck (and barn) on the left side of the sketch. The main entrance cooridor is located on the bottom left of the sketch blfenton: on the bottom of the sketch there is a hallway between the great room (left) and dining room (rt). In the hallway there are closets and the closest closet has a washer/dryer)

Is the seating going to be the only eating area? If you move the DW you also need to move the sink in which case the island now would become much less useable space . If this is your only eating space then I guess the drop in height is fine but if not then i would just do a nice wide island with seating at counter height that would give you ahuge work space in what appears to be a small kitchen. Forget the narrow cabinets on either side of the range oils and spaices should not be stored there make the drwaers wider for pot and pan storage I like 2 deep drawers and the split upper drawers quite a lot shallower for gadgets I like all bac se cabinets to be drawers and I really dislike open shelving anywhere near a range . I find no matter how good the hood is the steam and grease still make its way to whatever you have on the shelves I think if you make all the cabinets in the island drawers you will have lots of storage and true pullot pantries on the firdge wall would also be my choice for good accessible storage

Patricia Colwell Consulting, that you for the feedback. The 3D picture from the cabinet site had an error on the lakefront window wall. Our home will have a 4 foot bump out that starts at the end of the lakefront cabinet run. I've deleted that picture and posted updated dimensions that reflect this wall more accurately. My first image from RoomSketcher had it shown correctly. That being said I understand your feedback on not having a cooktop on the island. I may be in the minority with this preference. However, appreciate your suggestion to move to an exterior wall for proper ventilation.
