You could do the hex on the shower floor and a pretty porcelain tile for the bathroom floor - something light and neutral so the hex pops!

How many years do you intend to be in the house? Take the number of months and divide that into the cost of the tile and see if it's worth it to you.

For example, I picked a very expensive quartzite for my kitchen counters but when I figured out the monthly cost, it meant eating out one less time a month and that's fine with me because I get to enjoy looking at my counters every day.

I know a lot of people poo-poo Home Depot for tile, but I’ve used it in bath renovations and it’s been fine. There are a bunch of hexagons for less than $10 per square foot. I used a gray hexagon for a main upstairs bathroom. Of course my tile pro approved the choice and we looked for defects and didn’t find any.

Most tile from Home Depot is not sold in the store. You order online and they ship it to the store. You can order one box of a few different tiles (or a sample if available), inspect in the store, then return the rejects immediately and order the full amount that you need Of your final choice. You can bring the box home and dry lay it on the floor to confirm you like it And show it to your tile pro for approval.

Also you need to return the one box of your final choice because you want to make sure your whole order is of the same dye lot.

Agree with AJCN. Does your neighborhood justify that expensive tile? If budget isn't an issue, do what you want. Just realize a future buyer won't care about the price of your tile. Neither will an appraiser. You won't get that back when you sell.

I'm starting a similar reno in January. Found the perfect hex tile at HD. Great price for the look I want.

I think it would be more important for the colors to complement the rest of the house. It's a diff room and the shape probably less important.

We went with the 12 X 24 tile. I realized that I just didn’t prefer the hex tile $2500 more than the 12 X 24!

If anyone is still reading, I would love help with the window treatment. This window is going trimmed out with decorative molding and painted all white to match the rest of our house (I posted 2 examples below). I was thinking of a soft Roman shade in white but maybe that’s too safe of a choice? There is a possibility that we might sell this spring so I want something that is neutral enough for buyers but also is something I love in case we stay.

Oh, and we decided to do the same tile in the 3” hex in the shower.

I suggest a Roman blind in a subtle pattern of light gray on white. Neutral but giving a sense of texture to the space.

I think you made the right choice with the large format tiles. Should help the room feel and look slightly bigger.

My favorite color is soft blue/aqua so I had planned to paint the walls that color. My 17-year-old daughter disagrees and thinks that the wall should be painted light gray with artwork over the tub with my aqua. I’m torn....

If you like the blue walls, go for it. When you list your house, repaint the bathroom if your realtor tells you to. I think a soft blue in a bathroom makes sense. And a white shade with some light aqua is fine. (Full disclosure: never liked grey and glad it’s going “out of style”.)

I’m already tired of gray gray gray everywhere. White can be refreshing with one row of gray (if you must)
for contrast, but it must not have a blue or any other undertone.

Luckily for me, I’ve always loved gray & white and will keep it around even if it’s no longer trendy. I’m a big believer in going with what you love, not with what‘s “in style”.

I’ve leaning towards pale aqua walls - we’re in Seattle so a bit of color would be great in the winter. I do love a crisp white wall, but with white cabinetry, white moldings and white subway tile, would that be a little bit too much white?

Given that gray might be less getting popular, maybe a white Roman shade would be a better choice?

If you’re in Seattle, I would avoid grey in the whole house. Other soft colors (like your blue, or a sea green) would be nice. The backdrop to your house is grey almost all the time.
