Need ideas to go with blue countertops
Comments (22)If you go with that very dark blue, prepare to dust a lot. I mean daily. Are you up to it? If not, your blue will be a liability. Ask yourself, "If I make up a yellow cakemix on this countertop and frost the cake afterwards, will I be scrupulously clean so that all evidence is gone? What about buttering toast? or tearing paper from a notebook?" [Curmudgeon opinion mode on] Blues are like reds, only perhaps even more so. By that I mean that blues are very personal and also that they assume much dominance in an interior decor scheme. I can wear blue jeans with everything because they're ubiquitous but I can't pair a blue item in a room with everything and neither can you pair a blue countertop with everything. Turquoise doesn't seem to be so overpowering but powder blue, navy blue, ice blue are very intimidating to me and other non-blue people. Red is bad enough at alienating a part of the population. I've put a red-brown paint into a neutral kitchen. It can be painted out. And my house is red on the outside so visitors and potential buyers have a clue about the interior already. Can you say the same about your blue? My old carpenter/contractor father, now dead, really disliked putting blue roofs on houses in 1950s and 60s. He had a tremendous bias against them, even when blue roofs were fashionable. He said a blue roof was too restricting because it put the color weight on the wrong surface. Better a brown roof with blue walls. If you put blue into countertops, I suggest that you have blue somewhere on the house exterior OR at the very least in the entry and in the landscaping. Then, hey, go blue with countertop and wallpaper and dishes and curtains and.... Personally if it were me, I would consider a new laminate that has some bluish tones in it but which does not have that dark aspect in the totality that your photo indicates. There are a tremendous number of choices in laminates. Additionally, if you're a blue person, think about alternatives. You can do well with a shrimp/coral room with blue touches, or a yellow one. Or reds. Or browns, or greens or creams or whites. Blue as a secondary color is much easier to decorate with than as a dominant color....See MoreNeed help w/countertop ideas to 'go' w/this HUGE fireplace! pics
Comments (5)The floors and fireplace are beautiful... congratulations. I'm not feelin' the gold counters since the fireplace is reading soft gray, a little creamish gray, and rose to me. I'd go in one of two opposite directions on this. Either soapstone to tie into the natural more rustic materials or something with a whiteish ground that will work with a slate backsplash. Love the idea of a slate (ie Fire and Ice) backsplash or quartzite BS in there....See Morenatural hickory cabinets, slate floor, gray concrete countertop
Comments (0)I have been so back and forth with kitchen ideas. We had a plan originally to do alder cabinets in a darker shade with light countertops, but we have 2 toddlers and think alder is to soft and also decided that Alder isn't modern enough looking. I have seen some natural hickory and birch cabinets, shaker style that look more modern. We like the look of a "concrete" countertop without the maintenance issues....hence quartz. Also thinking of a slate and glass mixed backsplash. Would love to see pictures, hear suggestions.....kind of like a rustic/modern vibe. Thanks!...See MoreNeed a light color countertop to go with cherry cabs, slate floor
Comments (24)Hi Merimom, We are just finishing up our natural cherry kitchen with Montauk Black slate floor tile. We installed Piracema White granite on the coutertops. As you will see in the photos, there is a lot of dark gray veining and waves in the granite. I am technologically challenged and can only attach one photo to my messages so you will see several posts. Best of luck! MJ...See MoreEmily M
