EarthTainer 'Farm' July 16 - 'Best of Times; Worst of Times' pics
Comments (6)alisande, This is my first year growing cucumbers, and they are a hoot. Must be my imagination, but they seem to go from a tiny "pickle" to 8 inches long in a week. Surely, this can't be true, and I've got to pay more attention, but in the photo above, I was really stunned to find four of the Burpless that had developed so quickly. Guess I am used to the long cycles for tomatoes and Peppers. Ben, I will concur that Goose Creek is more "sensitized" to disease versus a variety like Big Beef (above), so that is why I grow a range of varieties. Next Season, I am going to try to isolate the Goose Creek Tainer far back in the yard to see if separation from the other tomato plants will help it resist fungal disease a bit better. Comments (4)Hi, LadyAustin! You have really done a lot of work in your yard. It's fun to watch the progress. Thanks for showing us your photos, and please keep us updated when you can. Things should be really growing well for you over the weeks ahead! Comments (7)I love it when I find a new way to make an old way better. Good for you! For photos, I find it amazing how the digital world has changed everything. My kid will never have this photo dilemma. Ha! I guess I'm not very emotionally attached to my photos (the paper aspect, anyway). Many years ago, I got tired of the bazillion mismatched photo albums. I took them all apart, rubber-banded the groups, and filed them all in 2 photo boxes. That was freedom right there...to rid of the album clutter & space. In recent years, I've been scanning the banded photos to my computer, and...*gasp*...I throw away the paper prints. I've whittled the 2 full photo boxes down to 1 box which is about 3/4 full. When I want to frame & display a photo, I go find it, and am able to print to whatever size I want. Crop, fix, and make a so-so print something worthy of framing. I've scanned obituaries, childhood report cards & certificates, and many other paper keepsakes. Paper is gone and I don't miss them at all. They are now preserved & won't yellow further on the computer. If I want to find something, I know exactly where to find the digital document. No digging, no distractions of other treasures in the middle of my search. No mess. I'm able to print or email & share the obits and documents with family who lost their copies. Liberating....See MoreAll-time best thrift shop bargain!
Comments (28)Sorry, no big deals here to chortle over. I can't believe this obsession with name brand clothing, etc. Seems to me that if the maker wants to put his name on a shirt, shoes, etc. that I'll wear (hopefully for years), s/he should sell it to me for half price. I advertise his product every time that I wear it. When s/he tells me that, due to the wonderful cachet of their brand name, exclusivity and all (but they willingly sell it to all comers) I must pay double the price of run-of-the-mill products for it .... I say that's *smart marketing*!! Seems to me that we should just laugh at them and tell them to get lost!! Momma Bird in good old Ohio - we're waiting for you to show us a picture of you modelling your lovely new suit. Kathy - sounds like a good idea to pick up a few of those wonderful desks ... and publicize them on eBay. Good wishes for stretching your dollars ... (I was tempted to add, something like, " ... but not your stories, please" but forebore - I have had no reason to believe that I've seen stories stretched around here. Accusing someone of lying is not exactly a laughing matter, in my book. Though I do enjoy a good laugh, as several of you know - usually of the rather dry kind of humour. Enjoy your summer, sharing good times with loved ones and friends. I just lost a good friend - a hard worker and smart - not yet 60. Lung trouble - he smoked (cigars). ole joyful...See MoreUptown Gal
