Bought a coreopsis to replace Mac and Cheese!
Comments (4)We'll see. I just looked around my local nursery (was actually looking for moonbeam) and spotted this one. I had never heard of that particular one, and thought "What the heck" I might as well try it and see how it does! It has the color I want more than moonbeam too....See Morequestion about Coreopsis
Comments (14)I just wanted to chime in. Although Ken is by far more educated on all these topics than I am, I have noticed that by just pinching the bud off the plant as opposed to tracing down the stem to the next leaf, my Corepsis still blooms like crazy all season, well into fall. Although I am sure if I deadheaded properly it would be even more successful, I just don't have the time to spend to do it carefully and popping the heads off is so easy I can get to all my corepsis plants in about 2 minutes every morning before work (I really enjoy doing a quick walk through the garden every morning before work). Maybe because of how often I deadhead that is the reason I have had just successful long length of blooms every year? Who knows haha but it works for me. And it regards to the salvia I was so surprised how nicely my salvia Blue Hill came back after deadheading. Not as amazing as the first round but still very impressive....See MoreThread leaf coreopsis
Comments (2)It's always good to have the ability to look back on previous post to get an idea when some garden task was done or concerns at that time. I noticed above post last August that I had sheared the Zagreb coreopsis back and I was hoping I hadn't ruined them. Well, here it is almost mid July a year later and I just sheared them back again and will be digging and dividing them again come Sept. I didn't cut them all the way to the ground this time; I did cut off quite a bit, at least half to get them under control and to deadhead them the easy way. The Zabreb and Moonbeam has so many buds, it is almost to deadhead them. You'd spent several hours each day deadheading them by hand. I don't have the patience or the time. Deanna, what did you fertilize them with?(brand of product)Do you just scatter it about the root of the plants? I feed Miracle Gro..guess that's not enough? My intentions each year is to follow a 2 wk. cycle of using the MG but life happens and I fall short of those goals. I may take some of this coreopsis when I dig it up and plant in a four inch pot for our upcoming plant swap in Sept. That is after I transplant what I want....See MoreCoreopsis in my flower bed help
Comments (18)Wow...you rock Dottie! :O) I have been trying to find videos on youtube...as well as trying to find some pictures or plans online for help..and, I just haven't been able to find what I am looking for with my type of flowerbed. My gutter doesn't go underground. Ther used to be pvc pipes making the runoff go out into the gravel driveway, but it was going uphill instead of down grade...so when I was working the bed and took it off...OMGoodness it had clogged up and had the more aweful smell EVER! I want to try and collect the rainwater...we have higher water bills than power bills in this house believe it or not.lol With the gutter so close to the ground..I thought I'd have to do some deconstruction in order to make it work though. I hadn't thought about the trellis idea....I have been trying to figure out a vine or two that would stick to the brick itself.... For the small portion of chainlink fencing on the side of the house...I have some Moonflower plants that are almost ready to be planted in the ground that I was going to allow to trail along the fence. I have some of the 20 cent morning glory seed packets I was going to plant up over there too....I kinda like Morning Glories! lol...See Moremlm88
