Be aware the seedlings may not resemble the parents so if you give them away make sure the recipients know this.

Do you have a garage or shed where you could put them over winter? The house will be too warm. And possibly the soil in the pots outside could freeze solid and damage roots. But that’s just a surmise since I have no personal experience in temps as low as you’re likely to get.

I will let them know. I do have a garage but it has no sunlight in there. Will that be ok? If it needs light I have a sunroom with windows that has no connection to the heat of the house. If it needs light I can put it in there if you think that is best.

couple thoughts.. first.. welcome ...

they are not houseplants.. and therefore.. they are not to be brought into the house...

second.. they are deciduous plants when dormant.. meaning.. all the leaves fall off ... so dont freak out when they do ...

third ... where are you .. they are invasive in some areas.. and the fact that yours is sending up seedlings all over your yard is not good ... and you giving them away.. and spreading them further around your area.. is also probably not good ... sow here are you.. big city name ....

next .. i lost count .. lol ... gardening is one hobby.. a very much harder hobby.. is growing and wintering things in pots .. the safest and easiest thing for a newb to do ... is go dig a 2 foot square garden bed.. or use the veg patch ... and after the leaves fall off.. just bare root them.. and jam then all together into mother earth.. push them in good.. water them.. and let her take care of them .. its really that easy ..

and keep in mind... plants dont care if they get cold.. obviously the momma plant have been in your yard for many years with no problem.. so that is where the babes should be ... and if they get covered with snow.. all the better.. keep the vermin away from them ....

and do try just leaving a couple in pots.. to see how it works ... just put them on the north side of the house in full shade for winter .. tip them over if you get a lot of rain in winter ....

i am glad you are learning.. and getting excited about sharing plants with friends.. but i truly encourage you to find and use quality plants that are not problem children ...

and.. dormant plants dont need sunlight ... period ... they have no leaves to need such ...

but the bottom line is.. they arent children.. they dont need to be fed.. nor clothed.. nor educated.. treat them as the plant they are.. and you should be all set .. and i usually sum that up by saying.. dont love them to death ....

Another thought, since they're already potted, is to sink the pots. The pots need to have good drainage for this, but the idea is that they are as protected as they would be in the ground but dont require digging up again. I have a mini hosta that lives in a little planter up on the porch spring-fall, and then for the winter, it drops into a hole in the ground by the house, plastic pot and all; it's followed this pattern a few years now and done well. I have another Hosta that is in a pot, and last winter it lived in the screened-in porch sitting in a foam cooler (nothing fancy, just one of those ones that they use to ship melty/perishable things in summer); it survived well ... we might have tossed a scoop of snow in it's pot once, but it didn't get watered. My two southern highbush blueberries are going back to the basement (generally around 50°F) for their second winter but if they were hardy and not going to bloom too early on me outside, they'd be staying there, the screened-in porch, or the shed. They did go dormant last year, and they hardly needed any water (just enough to prevent total dehydration, NOT WET); they came out of dormancy about as expected.

Thanks for all of the tips everyone, I am in MA. I have 2 dark pink ones and 1 pale pink one. The owners before me planted them. I am not sure how many years ago. But it's a space of dirt between the deck and the cement they put down. I pulled the babies because it is to small of an area. to have all of those babies. I figured out how to trim by watching 4 videos to ensure consistency of guidance. The bushes are a desirable plant in our areas. I have friends that Facebooked me messages for them when I posted photos. I didn't even know it's name until they told me. One of my friends told me to check to see if it was a propagation type or seedlings. I was like yikes this is a lot of babies and too small of an area. So I potted them. I figure maybe next years get it to them since there are restrictions as this time between our states with covid. Thank you, It is good to know about the 3 year mark, they are all pretty tiny.

Those are very pretty sinscore! I really love the pale pink one. There's a large shrub that color in the neighborhood that I always think of getting a snip of! So far I haven't had the nerve!

Sinscore, I'm in PA, zone 6, potting Rose of Sharon also. I keep the pots close to the house, in a spot sheltered from the wind for the winter. Some may not make it, but you'll always have more to pot up next year. Never a shortage, lol ;) The one pictured is in the ground. Yours are beautiful!
