Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Help me find a replacement light for this bathroom!

We need a new light fixture to install over our vanity that will cover the full wall, including above the toilet, replacing the one in the photo, which never looked very good with the odd angle, and is deteriorating so we can't replace the bulbs. This wall section is about five feet. The new fixture should be one straight piece with no more angled section!

We plan to install an LED lighted mirror over the sink and rehang the medicine cabinet over the toilet. Here is the link for the mirror we'll probably use.

So far, my only idea has been a flexible track light kit, which is meant to be cut to the length needed. Here is the link for that kit>

But I'm not in love with it and figure there must be a better option! I really did like the two texture finish on the canopy of the current light; if only there would be a way to retain that feature....

why on earth do you have a track light in there?

get a new recessed light in the center of the ceiling, and then do a proper vanity light over the sink.

Tons of styles, so look here (I'd prob do a 3 light. something in the 20" - 30" range

If you want brighter light, make sure each bulb can use 60-75W, and have 3 of them. use LED 3500-4000K bulbs

with your mirror, would look something like this combo

I'd put the mirror on diff switch than the overhead lights. this way, you can choose to use just one of them. put the light bar and ceiling light on the same switch

for the ceiling light, try a retro fit recessed w/LED. this is 6"

Yes........... as Beth, one exception. ( if that is a fan light, yes you need the fan ) and stop worrying about covering DRYWALL attachments. Fix the drywall, and paint.

OK, now that I have seen that picture, we too were looking for charcoal colored 24x24 tiles in "rectified" porcelain for my toddler son's bathroom floor. We found exactly the same color as in your picture in both Walker Zanger and Porcelanosa brands in local show rooms in our area. BTW/ they come in several sizes and textures. If you have any showrooms in your area that carry these brands, you may want to check there. Another tip: you can go to www.divinedesign.tv (candice's website), navigate to the episode of your choice (her website design is so unfriendly to navigate unlike her interior designs!) and she lists the source of each item she used per episode. But, be warned, she uses some stuff that is available only to architects and designers and not to the general public.

I just ordered this one. I like the clean lines and it also will hold a 75 watt bulb so it will be a little brighter in there. I do have a recessed can light in the shower but this way it will give a bit more light. Someone on this board said that the round lights look like "boobs" and I just kept thinking of that everytime I looked at a round light so this one solves that mental image!! Thanks for all your suggestions!!

Hi Pirula, I did look in Schoolhouse. I love their lghts and hae some classic flushmounts from them in my kitchen. The problem is that for this bathroom, I need something that does not project too much and possibly pointing up. BTW, the paint is Elephant's breath and I really like how soft it looks. Thanks to Pal for that suggestion. The second and third pics are just the plastered drywall. I will try to get some more recent pics. I also have a small chandy there, that may be useful to consider when picking the sconces.

Overstock has lots of fixtures in your price range. I like your idea of constructing something of translucent material to diffuse the light from the existing fixture but that sounds like a tricky project! Our main floor bath is smaller, maybe 5 x 8, but a two-light fixture provides plenty of light (including the tub/shower). Our fixture overhangs the mirror so the light seems to be amplified. I'd think that either 3 or 4 bulbs would provide the light you need. Maybe looking at photos of baths can help you decide what style you like.
